This is Webroot thread so I suppose many users posting here are using Webroot & therefore know well how Webroot works.
So I wanted to know if Webroot in default settings is completely automatic & doesn't require security input from users or it does requires input from users like popups to allow/block, etc...?

If its completely automatic & doesn't require security input from users then I would consider it for laptop of my family members who are average users & zero knowledge about security.

 

I've been using Webroot for the past 2 years. I can't remember the last time I saw a pop-up?! I've installed it on several family members computers, including my wife's. No issues at all.

I do have to say that I've spoken to these family members about safe browsing practices as well and encourage them all to use WOT. The only issue I've had is with my 78 year old mother who keeps installing all kinds of software and clicking yes to everything....

 

Regarding the threat Rombertik, how effective is WSA against it?
Can I trust rollback if disaster strikes?

Perhaps Unchecky would be useful for her.

 

Does unchecky automatically start up when you try to install something? If not, I don't think it would help much..

 

Unchecky is a sniper sit there till a ad comes alone then reacts by stopping it,then go back to sleep,automatic genius.

 

Let's hope its development will be continued as a standalone product too...

 

I just did a 'check for software updates' - why does WSA report that I'm using the latest version (8.0.8.76)?

 

WSA is quite effective at detecting it, and it is unlikely that it would get to the point of triggering the destructive portion of the anti-analysis techniques that it uses.

I have used both Norton and WSA for a long time and Norton gave me more pop-ups that WSA. It depends on the software that you install, if you don't use lesser known programs you will not get a pop-up at all.

I've been thinking of using Webroot System Optimizer. However there is something in its settings I don't understand: the clean "Windows Registry Streams" option. In its Help page, Webroot explains: "Clears the history of recent changes you made to the Windows registry. Note: This option does not delete the registry changes themselves."

My question: Surely this does not mean that it will delete all my System Restore points, thus making it impossible if ever needed for me to use System Restore to reverse system changes?!?? (Note how they explain: "Clears the history of recent changes you made to the Windows registry")

 

Cleaning the registry streams does nothing to System restore, they are basically MRU (most recently used) values pertaining to Explorer (window size, location, etc).
Probably not worth bothering with...

Thank you! As you said they were hardly "worth bothering with", I decided anyway to throw them in with the bunch of other stuff to be sent to the cleaners. I successfully did my first Webroot System Optimize this morning without encountering any issues .
