I assume that using the MVPS Host list in UBlock does not actually modifiy your Hosts file. Rather, it just uses the same MVPS items. Right??

Yep. The extension would have to have direct access to your computer to modify your host file.

As I recall, 'Fanboy's Annoyance List' includes 'Fanboy's Social Blocking List' as well. Is that correct?

I opened both of the list and searched the social list for a few items and did ctrl+f to search the other list and it did not have the items I searched.

Looks to me like Fanboy Social is included in Fanboy Annoyance:

    12,342 + 7,401 = 19,743.

There is just no guarantee about which filter list is loaded first.

Also @gorhill Can I use spam404 filter in uBlock Origin since it is not in uMatrix and unselect peter lowe's(in uBlock Origin) since it is in uMatrix by default? I use all filters in uMatrix and all default filters(except peter lowe's atm) in uBlock+plus all privacy+plus all social+ adblock warning removal list+ anti-adblock killer+spam 404, because this for me causes no false positives except maybe one or two in uMatrix on a site I rarely visit an news site because I like to use better sources and I just allow the script or whatever it may be and uBlock Origin takes care of the list and this is my list of filters in Umatrix just global rules and my settings are pretty strict I think:

I block everything except image globally, anything to help or advice you would give would be greatly appreciated to increase security/stability/privacy/usability in what I have so far. I also only allow what is necessary for the page to load and work fully to my needs.
    Thanks, Malwar

Good question, I have also wondered this. Notice readers, this is under Regions, languages section of 3rd-party filters.

When you are not from the english speaking countries, it is very useful anyways to check your country specific filter, in my case it is FIN.
This blocks a lots of ads from finnish language pages.

The "region" in question is EU, so I am not so sure how useful this extension is to check. Maybe the content of the file might show something, but I myself am not competent to reply. And have not checked it yet.

FWIW, the Fanboy Ultimate List contains all others. So you can uncheck them in order to reduce download size.

EDIT: Just to be more precise: It doesn't contain the Anti-Facebook Filters and the Third-Party Fonts Filters. Both lists are rather specialized.

    Just out of interest.
In regard to the dynamic filtering element of ublocko,My first impression would be that in effect we are creating our own "hostfile" in regard to blocking some of the ad networks out there.

For every website we visit there are options in the grid to block certain elements,In the short time this is a excellent idea. But the more we browse the larger this custom hostfile becomes.

My query is....will this have a detrimental effect on future browsing because hostfiles by their nature will eventually slow the browser down.
For example..in my rules i have over 100 block rules and these will grow as time goes on..

A most excellent extension never the less.

You don't have to block each site by it's own rule. You can create global block rules and then only whitelist (noop) what you want or need for specific site to operate normally. This way you will hame much less rules. I have only 2 block rules, 33 noop rules and 7 allow rules.

Is the Fanboy Ultimate List already an included option in UBlock -- or do you have to get that on your own?
