Just wanted to let you all know that SurfRight has a booth (#2809 located at the South Expo) at the RSA Conference USA 2015 in San Francisco (April 20-24). btw, why are you also comparing Alert with Palo Alto Traps even though exploit prevention is just one of the things offered by Traps? (https://www.paloaltonetworks.com/co...ers/traps-advanced-endpoint-protection-wp.pdf)

 

During the course of last year, as well as at the RSA Conference 2014 (when Cyvera was about to be bought by Palo Alto Networks for $200,000,000), we received many questions how HitmanPro.Alert compares to Traps. Recently we have received access to a Traps environment (including management console), so we are able to test it very in-depth (including its malware detection module). I also added it to the feature overview for the same reason why comparisons from testing organisations put anti-virus products against anti-exploit solutions: there are concerns and attacks other solutions are better at solving or stopping.

Sounds exciting. BTW, I think it's better if you resize the pics of HMPA's GUI, it will look more professional.

OK thanks. I'm personally not into cloud based scanning tools. I will test HMPA in the coming weeks, and if it doesn't conflict with other tools I will buy a license, it's worth it and not even expensive. I also thought about buying MBAE, but if you think about it, HMPA simply offers more bang for the buck, it's not only anti-exploit, but also anti-ransomware and anti-banking trojan.

One suggestion for the alert messages:
You have already included a simple interface to make HMPA more user friendly for the Average Joe. But only for the main interface. And especially for this user group HMPA is some kind of set-and-forget software. I think it will be the alert messages which the user will see more often than the main interface. Imo they are still too crowded with detailed information only professional users can understand. I can imagine my mum seeing such an alert like this one would only lead to her calling me for help and not using the "Scan for HitmanPro" button since she wouldn't understand a word.

So my suggestion: Hide the detailed description how you prevented the exploit, behind the word "Details" or "More information" or something. Everything with the monospaced font.
Just like this:

Mitigation: Skill
[Complicated text blabla]

And make this default.

To not annoy professional users you could configure it that the details are shown by default if you have enabled the advanced interface. That way you can please everybody.

LOL We are only posting alerts with technical details because we're geeks that like to show off our software. HitmanPro.Alert is the only tool in the world that can actually show what happened, including code on the branch and stack trace. The default alert is this one (without the technical details):

 

And while we're at it: How about using the "secure desktop" feature and let the warning messages spawn on it? (Just like KeePass does it.) Not sure if it would be much of a security benefit though.

Edit: @markloman: Dang! Didn't know that. Should have used the test tool to actually see one alert by myself.

 

The new version looks great. Running the trial now. Ran v2 for quite some time and was quite pleased with it.

 

BTW, I forgot to mention that HMPA can actually protect apps running "sandboxed" via Sandboxie. That's another thing that MBAE lacks. Don't get me wrong, I think that MBAE is also a great tool. But the ability to protect apps running inside the sandbox, is really cool, almost bullet proof protection. First, exploits have to bypass HMPA, and even if they do, they are still trapped inside the virtual container.

 

I have downloaded hmp.a on my computer and is working fine. Keep up the good work.

 

Great software,
indeed impressive,
protecting windows computers from even the most sophisticated exploits, you will most likely never be targeted,
if you are using brain.exe and are not target of speer attacks.

During nine months of use, the only thing I got where false positives.

Now on one of my least significant computers, the keyboard is nonfunctional.
Still no solution to get i to work again, not even from the developer.

Don't get me wrong, I like this software very much, cause it's great by design,
but without a working keyboard it's worth nothing.

I'm still looking for a solution, to reset HMP.Alert keyboard history.

 

Just a shot in the dark, but have you checked the Device Manager to see if there's a non-functioning keyboard entry that can be uninstalled to force a re-detection?

I already uninstalled the keyboard, started the device manager with command to show nonpresent devices and cleared the usb history.
That didn't help either.

I'm sure, that HMP.Alert has a history, that is not removed, when uninstalled.
Indication is, that the licence is still there, after reinstall.

 

When "Keystroke Encryption" is enabled, i can't write characters like ã,ê,é, etc, in IE 11.

I'm using Portuguese keyboard.

They are a small but growing company... they have grown up here at Wilders... and now they are giving back to the Wilders community.
