Hopefully, I won't come across as totally obtuse but this is just confounding the heck out of me. I have been using the 64-bit version of Cyberfox for a rather long time. I noticed that the 64-bit version of Firefox for Win had hit the beta stage (v38.0b1), which piqued my interest, so I gave it a shot. The difference in speed between the two seems to be way, way out of whack, with 38.0b1 loading pages almost instantly in comparison with Cyberfox. Does anyone have a plausible reason why that should be the case? New profile? Beta versus release version? I'm using the same plugins and extensions on both browsers so that can't be it and I also have Cyberfox set to 'never remember history'.
I don't know since I have never tried Cyberfox yet, but I have used Waterfox. Waterfox is 64bit, and extremely fast. The fastest browser I have used so far.
Does Waterfox co-exist with Firefox without causing Firefox any problems? Does it use its own profile?
Waterfox did not cause any problems for Firefox on my machine, but you know that's no guarantee it want on yours. I don't think it will. Waterfox did automatically import all my extensions, and bookmarks from Firefox. I did not not like that it done that. I always do an advance install, and I did not see any options to opt out during the installation. I wasn't expecting it to copy my profile either though. I will install it again soon, and see if there is an option to opt out.
Waterfox uses the Firefox profile automatically. Most users will create a new profile for it's use - https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles
I never found any benefits of using a 64-Bit browser other than some add-ons like IETAB don't work with x64 browsers properly in Adobe Flash Based pages
Something I had noticed back when they used to do the 64 bit nightlies was that is seemed faster than any of the 64 bit clones, and faster than the 32 bit. I am happy to see it making a comeback. Can't wait for a final, assuming they don't change their plans again.
I certainly hope they don't change their plans again either. Further, I hope this isn't a one-off and something gets changed or added that slows down future builds.
Also a long time Cyberfox user here. Two things, well maybe three. I can't discern any difference between Nightly, Ff and Cf on x64 W7 SP1 personal built PC with a SSD. Probably because any RAM a browser needs rarely if ever is even 2 gigs so my 8 gigs is kind of waisted for browsing. The thing about Cf is the great support. I swear, Toady must stay awake 24 hours. Also, I've witnessed his updates come out sooner than Ff provides theirs sometimes. Last but not least, I'd like to try that beta but can't find it. Nightly still is still listed as an alpha. Thank you!
yeah it's a never ending update story, the moment the final of 17.0 was released, a few seconds later Major Geeks posted the beta for 38.0 LOL
Hence the question. Thus far, I have also been unable to discern any appreciable difference between Ff and Cf on an x64 W8.1 machine with an SSD and 16GB RAM.....until this newest x64 v38 beta was released and I installed it. This must be attributable to something I missed, such as a setting (or whatever) in Cyberfox, but I just can't figure it out what that might be.
