Trying to get the right combination to work... currently using privatefirewall, and 360 Total Security.. but, there seems to be problems with windows 7 system, telling me that both the windows firewall and privatefirewall are off, in the action center.., when I select privatefirewall and click on trusted vendor.. windows explorer -restart So.. something does like something.. So, need a good light weight firewall with block in or out.. and ip range or address.. that can work with 360 total security antivirus. ( freeware would be nice.. but if I have to pay.. so be it. ) Anyone? Major Thanks !!!
Does the 360 total security package have an internet security version.?..If so maybe you should upgrade to that .
Actually so would I (it is in my config). The only pros here is that both progs has HIPS. I don't like this doubling.
Better then to look for another firewall, it would prudent to solve the problem with disabled firewalls. Try to disable all features in Private Firewall and leave just a firewall, it probably conflicts with 360. If it does not help, run sfc scan. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html#option2
Windows Firewall was released in 2012, it was not updated too much before either. A firewall either works or not, it does not require updates, like HIPS/anti-exploits.
Really? Maybe you are right. I know some tech geeks use even outdated Comodo FW 5.10 or even 3.14 but it's up to them. Maybe I'm wrong but as for security I choose to use maintained apps.
That really depends, but usually updates only add/fix features/bugs, mostly not related to the firewall itself. http://www.afterdawn.com/software/version_history.cfm/comodo_personal_firewall
Pretty much this, I'm glad someone said it instead of everyone just listing their favourite firewall Sort out the issue with your current setup. If there's corruption, incompatibilities, or malware, then you'll want to know before considering the system secure. Sure, I like Windows Firewall Notifier alternatively, but both of these require the OP to have a working Windows firewall in the first place.
First of all I have had problems with PrivateFirewall messing up my system and unregistering script files. As for Windows Action Center try the following to fix it. Start>Run>cmd [enter] net stop winmgmt [enter] cd /d %windir%\system32\wbem [enter] ren repository repository.old [enter] net start winmgmt [enter] Reboot and it should rebuild the repository.
No one mentioned Outpost Firewall Pro 9.1? I had used privatefirewall about a year ago with no real problems, but in past few weeks I've been running Outpost (paid) and v9.1 seems very light fast and solid here. If you dig around at their site, I think they have list of av compatible or not. nod32 + outpost combo here no slowdowns noticed.
What are you talking about? It was released with Windows xp SP2 and Server 2003 and has been a core part of Windows ever since (and likely updated in the hundreds of continual Windows updates). cf. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Firewall The question to ask is "What do you want your firewall to do that WFW doesn't do already?" Personally, I'm liking GlassWire (a HIDS and WFW interface, not a firewall) free.
