They never seem to work right on my computer.........For instance....Safe pay from Kaspersky..not automatic and doesn't work with the latest chrome,,,site ratings from kaspersky don't work with any browser.......BD wallet a true pain and site ratings work only at times when they get the urge....

I have windows 7 64 bit...I think maybe simpler is better

I wish they'd release add-ons through browser add-ons page. These local installations are idiotic and they never work as they should. Plus they don't work with browser syncing and just craps everything when local and synced addons are mixed.

@Mayahana: Technically, uBlock is an add-on as well. That is unless you're talking about plugins not extensions.

me too, I can't stand them and never enable them. Luckily ESET is one of the few AVs still standing with no bloat and no addons

I wish they would all drop the toolbar/addon thing and just stop trying to compete on features they suck at and nobody wants anyway.

I just rebuilt all of the desktops in the house to 8-Core, 16 threaded 4Ghz machines with 16GB DDR3 2400. I wonder if I would notice Eset drag now?

I usually don't give these add-ons any chance. Always click NO when prompted by Chrome.

Just renewed my NOD32 AV license to 7 PCs valid until March 2020

No other AV is going to give me the lean setup of NOD32, that is no addons, good HIPS/PUP detections......

Maybe he just meant ESS at that time, not the EAV. The EAV shouldn't have any problem for him though.

Only until 2020? Based on the fact that you change AVs daily, I would at least have expected something until around 2030 or 2040.

It seems that the HTTP scanning module has been updated recently as I haven't been experiencing the internet or streaming slowdown lately. The reason I renewed until 2020 is because I have always been an Eset user, until last year where it slowed me down and I kept trying an AV after another as you know. But now at the end of the road, I have come down to a conclusion that it is the best for me. Yes it may not be as light as Norton Security, but it's not as bad and the fact that it requires no toolbars to protect me like NS does, its low FP rates, I decided that's it......I'm sticking to this and let me be done with the AV hunting quest :)

True I'd never use ESS, too heavy. I also don't need anything but the Windows firewall to be honest.

@ Mayhana, BTW bro, if you want, you can login to my system and do some tests to see how light NOD32 is now and how browsing through several websites is snappy and you can also test the streaming videos on my system. send me a PM

So just to confirm, between ESS and EAV, is the difference in performance related to low level kernel-mode filter drivers? And I'm assuming here that those filter drivers are part of ESS, but not part of EAV?

Regardless, I am happy that you seem satisfied with ESET and settling down with one product now, Mortal. It seems to fit your needs well and doesn't have all of the addons and unnecessary stuff that most others include.

Technically, I am not in a position to answer that, but just try both and you'll know what I'm talking about. ESS is unusable for me to the point where I actually contacted ESET to downgrade my license from EAV to ESS and they added more validity period towards my license since EAV is a downgrade so Im very happy :)

Now, after trying all AVs, here is what NOD32 gave me:

    1- No FPs
    2- Best simplistic user interface
3- The ability to be able to whitelist even system hidden files without having to go to Control Panel / Folder options to enable system hidden files temporarily just to whitelist the folders I want since NOD32 displays even system hidden files when trying to add exclusions, same as Kaspersky. Other AVs just follow what you have set in the folder options, so that is an inconvenience having to switch the system hidden files back and forth when wanting to add exclusions. A security product should show all files on the system regardless, it even lets one see if any fishy folder name / file is there which is a plus
4- One of the best support and forums, their staff are very helpful and even monitor these forums where if one says anything bad about Eset, they would actually step in and try to help rather than bash the person.
5- Flexibility of the license, I can ask them to downgrade, upgrade, remove users from a license, change my username/pass for a license if I felt that someone stole it no problems, I like that flexibility
6- the ability to reinstall on my system as many times as I wish without having my license blacklisted or having to go through an online portal to de-activate the license from one of the systems that are using it
7- The fact that it has no addons nor require any addons to protect the system, making me free to use any browser I wish without doubting whether I'm fully protected or not
8- No bloat, the best thing ever, every company out there has some extra stuff that you don't need, banking mode, browser add-on, etc, Thank the lord we have one lean and clean AV only. If ESET changes that, it would be a real killer (for me at least)

This sums up everything for me right now

ESS actually comes with two drivers. One of them is for firewall if I am not mistaken and another one is same as EAV.

Great choice, but 2020? A lot can change between now and then.
