Hi :) I swore I'd never use it, but my circumstances are requiring me to start to use on-line banking.

I see several suites that offer "safe-pay" "safe-banking" features. My current security suite has no such specific feature.

Do these "safe-...." really offer more security than a suite without them? If you had no other choice but to use on-line banking would you only use a product that had one of these "safe-pay" "safe-banking" features?

If you are so concerned about online banking (which I'm not: I've been using it for years with 0 problems) get a live linux cd , boot (learn and enter the banks web address yourself) and do your transactions, switch back to your normal OS afterwards.

Thanks phalanaxus, for the reassurance on on-line banking. The Linux stuff is above my pay grade :)

would the live linux cd be able to remember you the next time? I think the solution to the concern sounds solid. any recommendations which ones would be ideal candidates for the job? I use live cd to do backups and now banking soon, i'll give it a try. always uneasy doing that stuff online. what are the security advantagez anyway running from live? thanks.

Trend Micro Password Manager has a really neat secure banking feature. I use it a lot and trust it.

Two main approaches to secure banking. Sandboxed/isolated web browser sessions (bitdefender, comodo, kaspersky, etc) or dll/injection on your current browser session to ensure your browser is isolated from possible attacks (e.g. GDATA, F-Secure, WSA). Tried both approaches, both works well, the latter is more convenient the first generally more secure . In both cases additional security measures may be employed (.e.g. keystroke encryption). Just a matter of trying different products and see what works best for you.

1-You run linux which is not the dominant target for malicious files.
2-The OS runs from your RAM instead of HDD, RAM is cleared out on restart.
3-Basically any distro would do, If I remember correctly there was even a distro with buffed up security just for doing banking.

^^ Yes, that is it. ^^

    MRG has banking test results.

If your bank uses Trusteer, that software can set up a nice and safe computer to bank handshake. See Trusteer thread.

@hawki Give Kaspersky Internet Security a try. KIS with firefox/chrome is a good combo for safe money. Remember to enable the plugins both in normal and protected browsing session. Besides Kaspersky enables secure keyboard input for passwords in normal browsing sessions too:)

Sorry to hijack the thread but even I do a lot of online shopping and transactions , have always used chrome for this . How vulnerable I am just using chrome ? Using linux is very slow option , is safepay recommended by itman enough ? What other steps I should take ?

safe banking is in almost all suites a limited access to manually set up web links. anti injection seems a common feature for all suites, nothing to mention.
anyway - as written get a linux boot or get a decent and secure browser, disable all plugins and done. ofc a decent os is highly recommended!
so at least i dont give a dime on such suites. malwarebytes antiexploit offers some nice a free protection.

    about chrome cve
    http://www.cvedetails.com/product/15031/Google-Chrome.html?vendor_id=1224
    firefox cve
    http://www.cvedetails.com/product/3264/Mozilla-Firefox.html?vendor_id=452
the most recent version is recommend as usual.

btw either chrome and firefox offers no ssl by default, only tls - so disable stupid ssl-protection in suites, this make your browser vulnerable (poodle test)

about shopping - some shops are "trusted shops" - trustworthy. i do online banking and paypal-shopping (ofc ebay too) - never had any issue since years - without any suite or av program. if some feel uncomfortable without, just p(r)ay for suite.

its those common malware hype with some good merchandising - boo, the evil web

Well, the features vary depending on the product so if you want a product recommendation perhaps you can be more specific? Generally you want to make sure the system is clean. If you have a good resident AV and and an added layer such as MBAM for a second opinion that should be enough (you could run a scan before every session). If your bank supports Trusteer Rapport (TR) then that would add additional protection. Use a wired connection when possible and if you must use open WiFi then use a VPN. Another really good feature is two factor authentication. My bank sends a code via text message to my phone for every session that must be entered as part of logging in. That way even if my password was stolen the account could not be accessed. Your bank will likely also require that you choose an image to associate with the account as a way of making sure that you haven't logged into a fake site. Hope this helps.

Well I used KIS 2015 and its safe pay option never let me complete a transaction . I was looking at the Bitdefender safe pay forum category and some peeps report having true nightmare experiences with it.

My main problem with Bitdefender Safe Pay was no support for LastPass. If you want to try it it's available as a standalone product and most of the features are free:

Most of the current problems with BD SafePay interestingly are with the version integrated with its Internet Security products. Also appears there can be problems with the stand alone version if other BD products are installed such as BD's free AV. So as long as no other BD products are installed, you should have minimal issues with the free SafePay version.

Most of the complaints about it center around the stupid AV scanning it does on startup. That can be disabled in its "settings" area. There are complaints about it not uninstalling cleanly so best to do an image backup before installing it or minimally, create a system restore point.

Note this product is not designed for everyday browser use; only to use to access your financial web sites. Also many things are restricted or prohibited in its browser such as printing and the like. Also it uses a "hardened" modified Chromium browser and as such, there are bound to be some software and hardware incompatibilities.

As far as Trusteer Rapport goes, I used it in the past and there are numerous comments on it on Wilders. Most are not favorable. It slowed my browsing speed to a crawl and affected overall system performance. It deeply impends itself into your system and uninstalling it is a mess.

Yeah, many of the unfavorable comments about TR were made by me lol. It slowed browsing for me too, but fortunately I didn't have a problem uninstalling. Still I wouldn't discourage people from trying it if it is directly supported by their bank website. It apparently doesn't slow browsing for everyone and for those who have uninstall problems Trusteer has a removal tool:

I had no problem with uninstalling Trusteer... and it did not slow me down.

Overall though, I prefer the BankGuard module in G-Data, for which updates/improvements are being released in the coming days.

@Brummelchen makes some good points too.

I saw an post to an independent test on here a while back that showed only three programs that passed their banking tests, Truareer, Zemana and one other i can not remember at this time. But maybe the new versions of the security suites can do better, i don't know.

I found bitdefender safepay slows my quad core i5 down to a slow crawl.

To me these hardened browsers are for the user that gets viruses on their computers and who are not security conscious.

Wilders forum members are probably savvy enough to not need these browsers particularly with how harsh they are on your system.
I used it twice but cannot bare to do it again so i use a normal browser instead.

    I should uninstall it.

Just go to the MRG web site and download the 4th quarter reports for 2014. Those are the most recent ones.

Only one product passed both test levels. That was Wontok SafeCentral which is a commercial endpoint product.

As far as Internet Suites goes, both Webroot and Kapersky passed the level 1 testing and were certified. Two standalone products, Zemana Antilogger(paid ver.) and Quarri POQ, another commercial product, also passed all Level 1 tests and were certified.

For what it is worth, Newegg has a deal till 3/30 where you can get a Webroot 1 year license for $15 U.S.

Thanks itman. I also thought Zemana aded the ssl protection to the free version a few months ago, I don't know,

After looking at both levels I am confused.

Level one shows only webroot and zemana passing the shim and applnit tests and level 2 shows webroot, wontok and zemana passing the shim and applint tests at bottom?

and how does turning on enhanced protection mode with processes on IE 11 win 8.1 64bit help?
