    Almost every test or review indicates that Bitdefender has almost no impact on system performance and near "perfect" grade in protection. Bitdefender is "huge" in many aspects, how can it be so light?

    There are many giveaways outhere and still we dont see many people running it ...

    Av-Test, Av Comparatives, PcMag all say that Bitdefender is very fast, whats your experience guys? Last time I tried it made my browser speed a lot slower.

    IMHO, the output can be varying on every system. I would suggest you install it and try it yourself on your system.

    Usually I can't feel difference between AV softwares when using my computer (or, I do when WD is active and I open a folder full with exe files). BD, Norton, Eset, no slow-downs obvious enough for me to tell.

    However, I don't like it because it's a pain to exclude a file from quarantine -- there is a "restore" button, but it doesn't add the file to exclusion. So, when you hit "restore", you will get another notification saying that BD's killed the virus and the file is moved to quarantine again.

    I am very interested in either the pay or free version for two Windows 8.1 computers (one is 5 yrs old 64 bit, the other is at least 10 yrs old 32 bit). I will be watching this thread with interest.

    As interesting as I find computer security, the options are dizzying!

    I find the results of AV Tests and other review sites very strange. They say Bitdefender and Kaspersky are the lightest, but even on my blazing fast laptop (check sig for specs), they seem to be the slowest. I don't get it. I think they pay these review sites to hide their horrible performance aspect.

    I see, this kind of behavior is very annoying.

    yes, internet became slower, and now it is not an antivirus anymore, it is a registry cleaner, junk files cleaner, optimizer, disk defragmenter, basically, **possibly offensive phrase removed**

    I use it on my Windows 8.1 computers and have no problems with slower browsing - well maybe a little compared to not having any AV installed. I also have the willpower not to use parts of the program that I don't want, or need. :)

    On my computer (Win7 64) my experience with the IS was slow boot and slow browsing (low CPU usage though).
    I changed to the AV and the browsing issues disappeared. I don't mind about the boot time so I'm keeping it.

    I've been running it on my PC since 2014 and just love the product, I have it on two PC's W7 and 8.1 I hardly know it's there, though I don't use the extra features like wallet and safe pay, etc. I must say it's been a great product and I'll probably continue to use it.

    But like others have said you need to try it on your own PC and see for your self, and yes there's always good deals on this software.

    Many users in another forum have reported internet slow down issues with BD's firewall.

    yeap, I think the FW is the culprit. As I said previously the AV only has no such issues.

    I always thought there is something obscure behind Bitdefender.

    In 2012, I began to lose interest in Bitdefender when they changed the user interface and took away many of the advanced settings. What really turned me off is when Bitdefender decided to delete a file without the opportunity to restore it. I have had an active license since 2007, but it will not go back on my main computer until they return the prompt for action option.

    Under Actions just select move files to Quarantine. Then white list it. No biggie.

    I like it, you can disable the bloat that you don't want. I would prefer the option not to install it in the first place. It seems fairly light. From past experience, it can be buggy at times. With that said, as usual it slows your browsing experience down.

    I installed the free version on my Windows 7 PCs, and got to see a compromise shortly thereafter. Keep in mind this stuff is anecdotal, and the ratings are arbitrary...

    ===

    Performance impact: acceptable. Incurs a little lag on older machines when doing background filesystem scanning. Otherwise not noticeable.

    Nuisance value: acceptable. Registerware, not too too bad about the ads from what I've seen.

    Realtime scanning: not acceptable. Sometimes misses part or all of a malware program. May not prevent malware from installing, or only partially block the installation. Doesn't always provide a timely warning.

    Background scanning: acceptable. Better at picking stuff up than the realtime engine. Problem is it takes time, which is precious if your OS is already compromised. Still, late notice is better than no none at all (which is what you'll get with MSE).

    On-demand scanning: acceptable. Can sometimes pick up files hidden by rootkits. May be unable to delete those files, but if you have a rootkit you need to wipe and reinstall anyway.

    ===

    It did about half of a proper job from what I saw - better than placebo MSE, which did nothing.

    tl;dr
    Better than nothing, but don't lean to heavily on it to protect high-risk users from their own behavior.

    The free version pales in comparison to paid versions.

    The issue is that I can't whitelist a file when clicking restore in quarantine. Just no option for it.
