I haven't got notification of those yet - which seems strange, but I have a slightly different Win 7. Plenty time yet I suppose.

Yesterday I didn't check if it was already there, just I hit "install it".
Therefore I can't say that KB2962409 installed twice.

 

I think it is not possible to install Win updates twice regardless a way of installation (automated via Win Updates or manually downloading installation patch) because the system checks every installation of an update whether it is not by chance already installed. At least I guess so because I tried to install manually one update and I got a prompt that this patch is already installed.

Hmm, strange. Couldn't be the update corrupted and thus "enabled" to be reinstalled?

 

KB3032359 is for March and replaces KB3021952 which is from February
The rest are from Feb Patch Tuesday. If you installed those previously, they shouldn't show on WU.

No problems noticed so far , no request for reboot but Windows Updater is back again saying that
I need to install the 3rd and 4th , but they are already in the update history list , and marked as " successful .... ( ? )

As you rightly say , they are not actually new updates , and looking through the Update history , all four were already there from earlier updates.

Does that mean they are actually installed twice or just listed twice ?

Anybody know how to remove the duplicates ?
Any ideas or advice on this would be very much appreciated !

Cumulative patch 3032359 for IE11 on Win7 finally installed when I went for updates today. I don't even use IE, but figured I should patch since IE routines are so invasive in the system.

The looping issues from the failed installations of patch 3033929 on Windows7 have been going on for 10-12 days now in the press. My update failed twice 2 days ago, and failed again.
M$ so far offered an explanation here about Linux and odd booting computers.

It must be a miracle that a patch fails so badly due to that on Win7 here since Linux is many feet away.
Yes, I do have Linux dual booting with XP on another computer, in another room, and it's not even turned on.
Nothing funny on Windows7, no dual booting, no custom bootloader, nothing. What are they thinking of?

OK - after browsing around I found that the problem appears to be associated with the bootloader. My system is dual boot. I have Windows on one SSD with its original bootloader. Another SSD holds Ubuntu 14.10 with a GRUB bootloader - this is set to boot first in the BIOS. My files are on a separate HDD.



Here's what worked for me.



1. Set the Windows drive to be the boot drive in the BIOS.

2. Reboot into Windows (i.e., avoiding GRUB).

3. Run Microsoft Update again and allow the install to complete along with restart. It did so without any issues.

4. Restart computer and reset BIOS to place the Ubuntu SSD first in the boot order.

I installed KB2952664 - and it comes with a couple of surprises. It added 2 executable files in C:\Windows\System32\compattel\ that my firewall caught phoning home:

queryappblock.exe and wicainventory.exe

Based on the little research I've done so far, it seems that this Windows update is a survey by Microsoft to determine compatibility for a version upgrade. So - I assume it has something to do with their Windows 10 planning.

I don't remember opting in to any Market Research, so I wasn't thrilled to receive this "recommended" update.

If anyone has more on this - please share. Thanks.

 

I got an update 2952664 and one for Skype. I both hid them since they both showed as optional.

It seems that 2952664 was offered more than once in the past and read a bit about the difficulties that some people experienced in downloading/installing this one. There were speculations (through googling) that this KB is/was to prepare Windows 7 to update to Windows 10. But then who really knows for sure other than Microsoft?

EDIT: I just discovered that 2952664 was already installed in the PC on an earlier date I suppose. So I deleted that one just now.

Well spotted niki , I can see it in Update History on Feb 11th.

It would be good to be able to search history for existing updates without having
to go through it all , line-by-line.

Why is the update system not seeing that some of these updates are already installed ?

Are these possibly revisions of earlier updates but keeping the same ID number ?

fyi: Re the Windows Customer Experience Improvement Program, I found the following:

In my case, I found that was turned on, I disable it right now.

2) In C:\Windows\Temp, found a folder named "Telemetry something", I don't remember the exact name as the folder not exist anymore (delete it manually).

 

Same thing here. Also found that it was previously installed and like you, uninstalled it. The the current update alert has been put in the "hidden" updates section for now.

 

In Programs and Features>View Installed updates. On the top right side there is a search box where you can type in the KB # you want and then it will pop up in the screen if you have that same KB # installed. You can delete it there. That's how it works for me in Win 7 X64.
