Quick question re Trend 2015 licenses, if i have a license for Maximum Security for example, can i use it with one of the "lesser" products? I really don't see the benefit to anything beyond Antivirus+, but i want to protect more than once device.

Licenses are specific for each product. However Trend licenses never expire, and they provide upgrade paths - even back to pre-2010 versions - no charge.

But they do not allow downgrade. Frankly you shouldn't notice the extra features if you don't click on them. I always buy Maximum, but don't use anything, so I just turn the extra stuff off.

Frustrating as i've already installed the Internet Security trial on a couple of PCs while i waited for our supplier to get back with their licensing options. Oh well.

I posted the details weeks ago, it's a Sony with Intel Dual CPU T2310 @1.46, 1.47ghz from 2007, 32-bit OS, upgraded to 2gb ram and Win 8.1 (came originally with 1gb ram and Win Vista pre-installed) and a 120gb regular hard drive. Pretty basic hardware I guess.

Aside from being a slow processor, only 2GB of RAM is more than likely an issue. If you open Task Manager is physical memory use at 74% of higher?

i5 2.67 Ghz 4 GB RAM. HDD is 5400 rpm but it should have nothing to do with my problem since I have constant 25% CPU usage for coreserviceshell.exe with low disc input/output.

Btw do you know how long we can store Trend Licences before activation?

You have overkill on the hardware.. I suspect a conflict with installed software of some type. You can store Trend keys indefinitely if they aren't activated. Trend has never, and has no plans to ever decay keys. They will even freely convert PC-cillian keys to 2015 by request.

    $19 for 5 PC's right now - by the way;

Roger is most likely correct. Anemic processor, but it's likely swapping out to HD, and you don't have an SSD so the whole process becomes slow. You are near the bottom of what Trend will run on to be honest. Trend claims it will run on less, but reality is - it won't run good.

I can't shop from newegg outside of USA and don't need 5 keys. I have Trend on 1, Emsi on another, Outpost on another, KIS on yet another. Did I mention the one one with 360 IS ? :D Thanks for the consideration though. Also found 1 year / 1 PC at 5 dollars for Trend IS.

I'll check it out later since I don't have TM installed at the moment.
Yes, it's probably the slow HD what makes things worse and then I have few choices here (with the latest versions of almost all AVs).

I put SSD's in every machine, and it was like I bought new machines in some cases - extending their functionality for another few years. My wife's older 2nd laptop benefited the most, it was like a new machine with a fast SSD, and we were about to sell it on Craigslist or Ebay, now she loves it. The reason was, it came with a crappy slow 5400RPM HD when it was new which was exceedingly slow.

Given SSD's are under 50cents a gig now, it makes sense.

I really like Trend Micro, but it is not light as Mayahana says (he is running in a SSD machine anyway).
I hope version 2016 iron out the bugs, I am anxious to try the beta when it is available.

I want to give Trend a try when my current Norton trial ends, but I hear from another forum that Trend changes system settings, e.g. UAC setting, file explorer setting (hidden files etc.). Trend seems to have a system setting template that will be applied during virus cleaning. This will be a blocker for me.

Isn't the world of computers a weird one? We have varying opinions on a product's effectiveness on a system:

"It's light as a feather on my system."
    "It's terribly heavy on mine."

"I've had false positives with this product."
"Never had a false positive with this."

Even testing organisations don't always agree when they publish their results.

One thing I'm sure we can all agree on is that every system is different with the myriad of settings on each one, so with that in mind, no one person is right or wrong when they make such statements as in the examples above.

    Well said :thumb:

Trend Micro is fine, I recommend to anybody give it a try and see how it runs in your machine.

I was having issues with Norton 2015 and after repeated tries, I wasn't able to fix them, so I uninstalled it. I've been watching this thread and decided to try Trend Micro Antivirus+. I've installed the 30 day trial and am very impressed so far. My computer boots up faster and web pages open significantly faster compared to Norton (and I have a high-end system). So far am very impressed and will likely end up buying a license (haven't used Trend in almost 10 years).

Any recommendations for optimal settings would be appreciated.

Default settings are fine, but you can change boot settings to "Extra Security" and protection mode to Hypersensitive to have maximum protection.

Turn on Hypersensitive. Set boot to 'Extra Protection', and notch the URL protection slider to maximum and you are good to go!

Personally I dont recommend to set Web Protection to Maximum, it will become very agressive, annoying and FP prone.
I would just recommend it to someone who is very happy clicker, for the rest "Normal" is more than enough.
