I don't know where those claims are coming from, I don't even see low rights processes in FF 39 nightly.

e10s is not the same as sandboxing. Yes, e10s is multiprocess architecture, and that is needed to make sandboxing possible.

  5. Well you have to implement OOP before sandbox, considering it took them at least two years to implement OOP (or electrolysis as they call it), the sandbox would arrive in a year or so, or maybe with Christmas this year.

Googling around there's also another related acronym: OOPP, "out of process plugins."

  9. @CoolWebSearch SpousalMilk gave the answer, you need to redesign an old fashioned programs into smaller components which can be run with lower (integrity) rights, small enough to run in a job object and functionally autonomeous enough to require limited process interaction to run on an alternate desktop to be able to sandbox a process.

Making it multi process is the first step. That took them two years, so taking that time as measure, my estimate is that around christmas (at best) FF could have a chrome like sandbox.

It's not OOP; the Mozilla name is "e10s" short for Electrolysis.

I am running the latest Firefox on Win 7 64.
I am facing occasional hang up for like 15-20 secs.
    Anyone facing the prob?

    2 addons are there.
Adblock Plus with default ads filter only.
    Internet Download Manager addon.

Tried disabling addons but the occasional hang up is there.

System-wide 15-20 seconds? When it happens, during the freeze-up are you able to explore outside of the browser with successful system responses?

What you posted seems to be shared experience between the use of Firefox. I was testing out TorBrowser v4.0.4 (which includes Firefox v31.5.0) and on some sites it would cause system-wide 20-30secs freeze-up. https://www.wilderssecurity.com/thre...p-address-if-i-use-a-vpn.374255/#post-2470102

I even was able to reproduce the freeze-up on the same sites by cleaning up my browser cache and re-booting the system and re-visiting of those sites. For me, upon the system unfreezing, I hear beep.

Using directly Mozilla Firefox 36.0.1, and even with same add-ons (minus the Tor ones) and its configurations, I don't experience the issue that I do using TorBrowser package.

Possibly the issue described here, which was resolved by uninstalling recent MS update 3033929:

This sounds almost exactly like the problem with MS update 3033929 described at Mozillazine:

    "To reproduce the freeze:
    Reboot computer
    Clear cache
    Visit twitter.com

Firefox, Seamonkey, and Cyberfox all froze for 30-40 seconds, locking up the keyboard and causing the cursor to disappear. Similar freezes occurred randomly when visiting other SSL sites, but I could not reproduce them reliably"

Yes. Now that you've mentioned it. I don't remember every site, but the ones I do remember were some SSL sites. I didn't have to uninstall the MS patch, I simply switched to the official Mozilla Firefox 36.0.1 package. Internet Explorer 11 doesn't suffer this problem. Mozilla Firefox 36.0.1 been working perfect even though I highly customized it to be similar to TorBrowser minus Torbutton, TorLauncher add-ons. I was anyways testing TorBrowser in Tor 'Transparent Torification' mode anyways.

  19. Old marketing practice says "when you are the last to implement a feature, give it another name". Reason is obvious, giving it the industry standard name, would enable competitors to start joking that they implemented that feature years ago. Your response shows that this marketing trick works :)

How do you phonetically translate e10s (e-tens or e-one-o-s) to electrolysis? (english is not my first language, not mocking mozillians, just curious)

Sandboxing is only one of many ways to improve browser security.

I too noticed that the hangup appears on some ssl sites i.e sites that are shown in green colour in address bar.
The upcoming update/version will solve this prob?

What I'm saying is that I've been testing Mozilla Firefox 36.0.1-En package since last-week. I never experienced the system-wide freeze-up with Mozilla's official package. TorBrowser even though I was using 'Transparent Torification' feature to have direct connects to web servers, I repeatedly observed the system-wide freeze-ups.

I can't say I'm convinced the problems relates to the Microsoft's Windows 7 update KB3033929. I remember applying that update, and I've not uninstalled it as of yet. However Mozilla Firefox 36.0.1-En package working just remarkable, like my Internet Explorer 11.

Yes. This is what I gathered from reading your initial post.

  25. I really like your quote, it suggest that treading water or having gill(s) are as effective to survive a shipwreck in the middle of the great ocean.

I was not refering to sandboxing, but OOP being labeled e10s by Mozillians
