    Hi,

I know its old software but I'm wanting a copy of it. The site is down. It was free software so it should be legal to post. If anyone still has a copy of it please upload it somewhere and post a link. There are "abandonware" sites that might host it free. Thanks!

Can't help you with this, but I do wonder why it never became a success, perhaps the product wasn't good enough?

I have seen posts that people had trouble installing it. None of its competitors seem to have had much success. Part of the problem may be that what little public understands the value of it, also confuses it with intolerably slow stuff like vmware. I've also noticed several competitors were victims of "buy and squash" it looks like for some reason it may be censored/suppressed technology. Maybe it makes it too difficult for the government to hack you. Although from what I have seen its easy enough for them to do that either way.

whats wrong with other virtual machines?
icore VA seems pretty outdated as it only support xp and xp is pretty dead for private users without extend support up to 2020. and nothing can legalize this security hole.

I wonder why such a tool has never been integrated into Windows. But perhaps you might want to take a look at Sandboxie, I believe it can do most of the same with better security. Here are some other tools:

You hit on a few issues:

    1) ICore is not a virtual machine. Which is the point. Virtual machines are slow. Icore is a virtual ACCOUNT. Like chroot. You can lookup chroot for more on the distinction. But in general, vitrual machines attempt to emulate an entire machine and OS then (if you let them) use a few tricks to speed things up (inadequately). Virtual accounts do it the other way, they just provide a terminal and segregate memory, processor, and disk use to give the appearance of a seperate machine.

    2) I only want it for XP. chroot and several others provide for linux and I have no interest in newer microsoft operating systems. Although the way virtual accounts work it would not supprise me if it does work for newer (esp. 32 bit) operating systems when you are using the same OS as host and guest, but its just not on the box.

    3) Virtual accounts are not for security and there is no hole. Its like saying your keyboard is a hole just because a hacker might use it to get in your system. Virtual accounts are a way of segregating activities on a system. They can be used for storage or memory allocation. Also, virtualization suites have the same security problem, slightly less. They don't provide any more exposure to security risks than the operating system they are on but they also don't do much to improve security, nor are they intended to. One exception is by providing strong limits on CPU use you don't have to worry about your web browser hanging the whole system.

I did on one occasion manage to get qemu to run at native speed. I had to recompile XP with a proprietary optimizing compiler using all the optimizations for my processor, then compile qemu the same way. I also flashed the bios with an expensive "pro" bios. It was all way over my head and I'm amazed it worked. Someone will ask so I'll say now. XP kernel source is publicly available (forget where) and due to an obscure lawsuit it is legal to own and play with as long as you don't sell entire copies of windows.

Oh if anyone else is reading it does not have to be ICore, but it has to be free and it has to be virtual accounting not virtual machines. So feel free to post if anything else matches that description. I think according to US copyright law anything that is not being sold by the publisher is legal to copy and use; effectively out of copyright. The same applies to books.
