"Wise Folder Hider is used to hide your personal folder(s) or file(s) to somewhere else in your PC or in removable devices, in which way you can protect your privacy with passwords by following easy steps." I've run CCleaner's (v.5.01.) Disk Analyzer, and that Disk Analyzer presented me with ALL folders/files - names, types, sizes, etc... - HIDDEN by Wise Folder Hider (from Wise Care 365 PRO). Not so much of HIDING. P.S. Disk Analyzer DID NOT see any TrueCrypt folders/files.
I've checked out this app years ago, and it was crap back then. Same goes for WinMend Folder Hidden. You may want to take a look at Hide Folders and Secure Folders, the first one worked well for me on Win XP, the second one was discussed at Wilders a while back: http://fspro.net/hide-folders/ http://securefoldersfree.com/index.html
Same goes for "Password Folder" from IOBit Information Technology ( makers of Advanced System Care ) aka "Protected Folder" I only found this by accident when I was using Ubuntu 14 live from a USB Wanted some music from my desktop and what did I see there ? ALL of the files in the so-called "Hidden" folder !! I haven't tried with CCleaner as the OP did , but I will do after posting this. PS How do you get bold type and other font related tools when posting on this forum ? Update - Yes , CCleaner Disk Analyser revealed them all but I couldn't access them with Right click -> Open containing folder
Because Wise's program is not intended to be high security. It's just a simple folder hider which is built-in to Windows, and Wise (and others) give it an enhanced, user-interface. Truecrypt is an encryption program. Apples and Oranges. Folder hiders are worthless, imo.
It depends on what you want to achieve. If you want to lock folders from other non tech savvy users (on same PC), then it's good enough. Also, it will most likely save your private data if you run ransom-ware by mistake. If you get hit by ransom-ware via some exploit, then it's probably game over.
Seems like Lockbox is a bit less advanced, but I also don't really get it. To clarify, I was talking about a tool like Hide Folders, which can not only hide, but also lock a folder or make it read only.
I've used Glary Utilities "Disk Space Analyzer" and was able not only to see all the files in the hidden folder and their names, but also OPEN ALL THOSE so called HIDDEN FILES. I truly did not expect that kind of s... from Wise Care Pro.
I've installed your recommended Secure Folders and decided to check it with Glary Utilities "Disk Space Analyzer". Glary Utilities sees those files hidden by "Secure Folders" but cannot open them. It's a plus, but... CCleaner also sees those files hidden by "Secure Folders". To sum up. "Secure Folders" also cannot hide files from Glary Utility and CCleaner. P.S. As a side note. After installing "Secure Folders", I could not open ANY PROGRAMS to be run as Admin from the Desktop Icons. I needed to right-click on the icon and click on "Open File Location", and only then - from the File Location, run as Admin. After removing "Secure Folders", I was able to run as Admin any programs from my Desktop Icons.
@ zmechys Actually, I was recommending Hide Folders. I've just checked it out, and both CCleaner and Glary Utilities can indeed see the hidden folders. Same goes for UltraSearch. Of course, they can't open the files, which is the same as with Secure Folders. But seems like their hiding method needs to be improved.
Here is my continued story with that "Folder and File Hider" from Wise Care 365 Pro. While opening the Wise Folder Hider, I got a pop-up message saying, "A new Pro version is available". I downloaded, installed, and wanted to open it, but Wise Folder Hider asked me for $Money. There was no "trial" run choice. Money or Nothing. I said no and uninstalled it. My "hidden" folder did not appear to be visible after that installation (like before). I re-installed "Wise Folder Hider" from my Wise Care 365 Pro, but I could not find my "hidden" folder. I ran Ccleaner and Glary Utilities Disk Analyzers. Both programs found and showed me my "hidden" folder/hidden files, but I was not able to open it. I've e-mailed my problem description to Wise Care customer service for help. So far, no answers. P.S. Currently, they selling that Wise Folder Hider Pro for $9.95. What a deal.
Have you tried this? http://wisecleaner.com/faq.html#48b537b45cf4debd7ce50d3e9461da5e Since their link is broken, I guess they are referring to http://www.wisecleaner.com/wise-data-recovery.html
Thanks. I've tried it, but nothing was found. I ran again Ccleaner. My hidden folder is there but I cannot see the full path or open any files. Next. I've decided to purchase Wise Folder Hider Pro, but I cannot install it. It asks me to unhide my hidden folder first. What a mess with that Wise Folder Hider. P.S. And of course, no answers from the Wise Care customer service.
As we can read, you probably made some changes on few folders...right? So...maybe you didn't remeber to unhide one or two and now the "pro" version detects such changes? Maybe it's unable to install because of this leftovers.
1. I've been using Wise Folder Hider that came with Wise Care 365 Pro. Yes, it has a lot of issues. (See above) 2. Two days ago, while opening Wise Folder Hider, I get a pop-up message, "A newer version is available"(!!!) 3. I download and install it, because ALL PROGRAMS SHOULD HAVE SOME TRIAL PERIOD, (plus, DON'T HURT THE CUSTOMER). 4. I try to open that newly installed Wise Folder Hider but I could not pass the opening "Purchase Activation" Screen. 5. I cancel and uninstall it. (In the past when I was unhappy with Wise Folder Hider, that could not hide my files from Ccleaner or Glary Utilities, I uninstalled the Folder Hider, and my "hidden" folder immediately became VISIBLE, just like a simple folder. 6. Therefore, I assumed (what a lame excuse) that by uninstalling that newly updated Wise Folder Hider, I'll get my "hidden" folder VISIBLE again. NO PROBLEMS, but... Wise Care Folder Hider DID NOT MADE MY HIDDEN FOLDER VISIBLE, and Yes, the files are still there because Ccleaner's and Glary Utilities Disk Analyzers see those files. 7. I've decided to purchase that Folder Hider, but now, I cannot install it. What's more, I've been bombarding Wise Care Customer "CARE" for three days now, but so far, I've not received ANY ANSWERS.
A solution to my problem. Today I downloaded and installed Free HDD Mechanic (https://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/free-hdd-mechanic-100-discount-free.374137/#post-2468246) After I ran HDD Mechanic's Disk Recovery Wizard, it found my "HIDDEN" folder. I've right-clicked the folder's icon and "Recover" next, and within 20 seconds I got my "HIDDEN" by Wise Folder Hider PRO folder with ALL THOSE "HIDDEN" AND "ENCRYPTED" FILES. What's more, I DID NOT NEED ANY PASSWORD to open my "hidden files.
Encryption would be the only real effective solution surely ? The only issue is with the live state, the only solution I have heard from beating that is to pull the plug or switch of all the electricity in your house !
