    Hi pb1

They don't do discounts directly that often, but you can find 20% and occasionally 30% discount coupons, by googling.

As to upgrading, if you have version 5 you can get the exact cost. I don't remember what I paid for my 4 pack, but the upgrade plus the discount coupons make it very attractive

Yes I think it is possible but not if you have backups you want to keep. If the usb stick isn't bootable the step of making it so will wipe it.

PB1, as Pete has mentioned, the process Macrium uses to create the UFD is destructive to the existing stick... BUT if you create the stick first, then add a "Backup" folder (after the fact) to it for purposes of keeping images, it should work just fine.

Thank you for your answers guys :) .

I do not have v.5 - i was thinking in general and thinking that they have some sort of policy when it comes to that so it will be the same , principled , when v.7 comes out and so forth . Do you know - approxematily - what figures we are talking about as an upgrade cost ?

Nice if one could have a Kingston highspeed usb 3 , the small kind that almost vanishes in to the usb hole , sitting there ALL the time with everything on it . Really smooth being able to do a backup/restore on the fly without the handling of records and disks first .

Oh , and , do anyone know where thoose discounts is easiest to find and is one going on now ? I visit regularly the most common discount sites but can not remember seeing any .

    Just google Macrium Coupons.
Depends on how big your C drive is. But you may want a bigger drive to store images.

    Hi again

As far as i can see there is a possibility for the use of a bootup manager in Macrium reflect home edition - it is not supported in trial that i use now so i can not test it . Can anyone confirm the above and maybe even tell me if it is possible to adjust the time of the manager - if not how long is it ?

Using EasyBCD as boot manager, I can adjust the time the boot menu which includes Macrium Recover will stay displayed until Windows 7 boots. I have set it to 5 instead of the deafault 10. Originially before I installed Macrium 6 Home, I had my boot menu set to 3 but Macrium changed that to 10 when I added recovery to boot menu from macirum interface. Anyway, don't know if that what you have in mind or not byyour question but it might help someone.

The full version allows you to install a local recovery environment. Mine is set to 2 seconds, which IIRC I set in Windows itself.

Thank you for your answer Gary .

Okej - so it has a manager and it is adjustable - nice . I am thinking of buying it because now when i use Usb3 and doing differentials and with the Rapid delta restore feature everything is so very fast that it is just fantastic . The reliability of Macrium reflect is a HUGE + to .

Is it possible to use the free version of Easy BCD to make the change to the boot time ?

There is no boot manager built into Macrium 6 Home. All changes I made are through the separte free EasyBCD. Yes, again you can change the time boot menu is displayed to whatever you want.

    IIRC = If I remember/recall correctly.

You can change the boot delay in W7 by going to System Properties > Advanced > Startup and Recovery.

I set up a schedule to run weekly to backup my data files. There was a problem with it running since the drive was not switched on. I selected Run Now and it completed. Then unticked the timeout option so that it would not forget again.

Since then I have updated Macrium and expected to run this week, but on checking it appears to have deleted the xml file. There is no record of it anywhere.

That is not a real problem since it can be re created, but what want to do is to use the existing image as the starting point for a new schedule. I have been hunting through the program but cannot find an option to set this up. Quite probably I have missed something obvious but would appreciate a shove in the right direction.

    Thanks

    It is automatic:

If you now do an incremental backup it will automatically use the last backup (full, differential or incremental) as the starting point.
If you now do a differential backup it will automatically use the last full backup as the starting point.
If you now do a full backup, it will start a new backup set.

Thanks, but that is not the problem. I want to set the existing image as the starting point into a new schedule

I know you do. It will just work if you are using the default image names.

You can always click "Other Actions" on the Restore tabs view of your file and pick "Create Differential" or "Create Incremental". This may be easier for you.

As Pling_Man says... create your new XML and have it use the folder your current FULL is in, all else is automatic. It'll use that FULL as your first reference for any follow-on DIFs or INCs. Your new XML must have the same backup spec (disks/partition/etc.) as the FULL you want it to reference... all else is magic.

Thanks Froggie - I will try that but I can see another problem. I have several external drives which are not permantly on, so they are always referenced by a different drive letter. I think you can reference a drive differently but can't remember how it is done.

When they're on, re-assign them to the same letter. If they're not all on at the same time, this should be fine.

I have to say that I am finding MR (on my system) to be acting rather oddly. Some incremental snaps take a long time to complete and others are quite a bit faster. For example, I have had 2 gig snaps take as long as 24 min and as short as 8 min. I also find it odd that I am getting gig sized snaps at all. I have not being doing much with my PC over the few weeks that I have had MR on my system (except when I moved files from my C:/ partition to my D:/ partition - that would be a move of 46 gigs of files). Lastly, I have seen read rates (with my USB 3 drive plugged into the USB 2 port) range from, around 900 Mb/s to, todays read rate of 89 Mb/s. And today, in-spite of the slower than normal read rate I had one of the faster snaps.

    Very odd.

I am attaching a screen grab of my MR storage files, one very odd thing I noticed was that the last one started at 5:56 am even though I have them set to run at 5:30 am

Here are screen grabs from the MR logs for yesterdays and todays snaps. Please note the read rate, same set up for both days EXACTLY,,,,,very very odd.

PS: differentials are scheduled for Mondays so this would not account for the difference in file size,,,,and again, I did nothing major on the PC over the last few days, certainly nothing that should have resulted in a 4.9 gig snap. No auto defrag programs running, MS restore points turned off, virus scans set to run at 7:00 pm Thursdays,,,,,,could this have been the cause of the large (4.9 gig) snap? I would not think so but,,,,,,,,

Just upgraded yesterday; price seen is with a discount code and the dreaded VAT we have to pay here in the UK . You can sometimes find 20-30% discount coupons by using Google; this one still works-UW3-8XH-9S3
