What you describe is exactly what I would expect... except Outlook surprises me a bit (although it is a M$ product). The other Office elements and, for sure, Acrobat are not VSS aware, although the office elements do have a periodic SAVE that can be configured... maybe even Acrobat (I don't know).
Why? From the point of imaging, IR is just another collection of files, inert unless you are using it
Pete, Barry, ..... You might want to try Shadow 5 from nticorp for your data backups. It doesn't matter whether the data is in the C drive or another drive. A change occurs when the file is Saved, whether manually while the program is still open or when you close the program. If you have AutoSave every x minutes then that's also a change and the change file gets backed up. Pretty much as close to real time as you can get without spending thousands of dollars for commercial software that duplicates at the transaction level. I've used it only in the "One-Way" mode. J

But I already have an excellent program that covers changes when saved. the issue is data that is seemingly saved, ie if the machine crashes and the data is there but isn't caught with an image when the program is open. Doesn't look like Shadow 5 helps a bit there. Pete
But it doesn't simply by not using, as when not in use it has no effect. But IR is an essential time tested part of my overall recovery strategy.
From the FWIW dept. (as in "learned this the hard (long?) way" )... The WinPEs (Recovery Media) generated by REFLECT have their DEFAULT set to "Rapid Data Restore," which is fine as long as you know it. So, if you use that PE to do a manual restore of some kind, that will be the mode in use for that restore unless changed prior to the restore. BUT... when an automatic restore (SYSTEM partition) is issued from within REFLECT running under LIVE Windows, part of the parameters of that task includes the RDR setting at the time of the request. This will either be your DEFAULT LIVE Windows setting or whatever you may have changed it to while issuing the restore request. I had been playing recently with the DEFAULT RDR setting under Windows and forgot to set it back on. When I needed to return to a time point prior to a program test this morning, I issued the automatic restore and watched it BOOT into the Recovery Media and do a FULL restore... "What?" I said, I thought the Recovery Media had RDR set as the DEFAULT. I now know what really happens... (to me)
I may have misread your post, but I thought that after saving the files and making the incremental, you then reset the system using IR - I took reset to mean updating your IR snapshot from a second snapshot. Seems to me in those circumstances IR could conceivably have a bearing on it.
Nah. I finally figured this Access VSS thing out. Not surprising but the problem indeed was ME. I had added a record to the bottom of the data base, but the way it opened I didn't see it. Sorting on record number and duh, it was there. So the imaging hourly is doing exactly what I need. Case closed. I will sit in a corner for 5 minutes.

I'm not sure whether it was available in the previous build, but in the current build there is an option to disable this when creating a rescue image.
I would like to plug my external drive into a USB 3 port (I am currently using a much better situated USB 2 port) but my USB 3 ports are situated on the left side of the PC towards the front. If I use an L shaped plug this will not be an issue. I am not sure but I believe this is the correct plug,,,,could someone confirm this. BG, it might be a bit more "universal" to just get what's usually called an EXTENDER cable (MALE/FEMALE standard USB3). These can be bought pretty short which sounds like what you need to make that USB port a little more more accessible. The other cables you're describing are special (USB-A to Micro USB) probably only for your device. PS- THESE might be even more universal (if they don't block anything you need over there)... PS2- THIS is one that should use your existing cable...
From the looks of it and the typical USB port orientation, that one should angle backwards if used on the LEFT side of your laptop.

Hi I cant remember ever having seen a discount somewhere on Macrium - do they ever have that ? I am wondering since i am thinking of buying the home edtition . Do they have one now ? When upgrading - how much does it usually cost - what did it cost now ? And now a noobie question - is it possible to put the recovery media on the same usb stick as one uses for backups ?
