I stopped reading the ESET "review" after he basically complained about that there was too little bloat found in the product as he seem to think that features like pc-tuneup and backup is a "standard" these days, but only because some vendors try to be "we got all you need in one package" doesn't mean all other vendors will follow in their track...and why he would compare the activity monitor and scheduler in the product with Window's own is another question. I guess he didn't realize that ESS is not one of those "total security bloat suite" and hopefully it never will be. I planned on reading the other reviews as well but I think I skip if they are by the same author. I checked uBlock and only 16 connected out of 42 on that pcadvisor page
In that case I beat you, I got 52 blocks in Firefox with uBlock, but I got more filters enabled than you have. I actually think it must be some kind of record this far for me on a singel site since I started using uBlock. It's generally between 5-20 blocks on each site. But I feel that the 42 domains that wanted to connect on a singel site is of more concern, but thanks to uBlock only 16 connected.
This is the 2nd time I see Eset suck so bad in the performance department, his comment about delayed downloads and Web lag comes to no surprise, they really need to release an updated version ASAP they haven't updated their buggy v8 since almost a year
I guess everybody expected it as they are referring to AV-Test. In reality, users have had a different opinion on ESET's performance and the vast majority find it an antivirus with lowest system footprint. Zfactor had an issue only with ESS and EAV worked like a charm for him, with absolutely no performance hit. It turned out to be caused by Epfw NDIS LightWeight filter and so far it looks like Windows issue rather than a bug in the driver. We'll continue troubleshooting the issue with you in our official forum as it seems to be a different issue than what Zfactor experienced. It's likewise with detection. I personally like CRDF France reports about detection of zero-day malware where ESET constantly keeps at the top. Of course, these are not not real-world tests but given that ESET has extremely low number of false positives all samples detected by ESET should be fully functional malware.
Well look at that.. Norton and Trend at the top, or near the top again.. How times have changed.. Two products I considered 'bad', are consistently performing at the top in every test over the last 6-9 months.. Will this continue? We can hope! Also I agree with his take on ESET having a performance hit. I am not on my 4th re-install of Eset to try and see how it works, and it still hits the performance SIGNIFICANTLY, and frankly, it's unusable for me at this point. (on 10 very fast machines, and 2 slower ones) ESET doesn't seem willing to take responsibility for this, despite all other products not having issues on Windows...
I've seen a site with 166 blocks. I will look it up later. Right now on that site uBlock gave me 30 blocks, and Admuncher 10, so 40 blocks total, including several web bugs picked up by Admuncher's Heuristic Web Bug Scanner. Right now I run uBlock and Admuncher in tandem because I find Admuncher picks up stuff nothing else does like the embedded advertisements in Roblox and Redtube. I find uBlock best with default settings then MVPS+Dan Pollack Hosts, and Fanboy Enhanced Trackers.
How is this a proper review? In my opinion these are basically old AV-Test results enriched with some blabla.
except that so far i still cant use ess because there is no fix for the issue and i prefer ess over eav..... im hoping there is a way to fix this. i finally got xp installed and will test this evening.
Well yeah, some of us like a little bloat in our product. Marcos, appreciate your participation in this forum. We all understand that this test is just one data point. Many of us appreciate that ESET is one of the rapidly evolving products that will continue to improve. And thanks for that link. Interesting.
