I've been paying about $10-15 a year for the last 3-4 years which I think it's what the normal retail price should be for AVs used in a home environment. When people read $50-60 for an internet suite yearly, they probably end up thinking it's crazy (which it is), and will opt for a free option or hope they won't get infected...

Out of curiosity, did "System Speedup" improve your machine performance?

imo a waste of time and money. its just basically like any other cleanup / speedup thing out there. i would rather not have the extra junk in my av personally. i buy the pro because it has what you need and nothing more.

No, not really. However, its nice to have a program that gets rid of junk files n duplicates. The defrag seems to work and the program is fairly nonintrusive. So I keep it for the time being. It neither adds nor subtracts to the computer as a whole.

It is very hard to get customer service and support from Avira. There is "Internal error" when you submit thru their website. There is no online chat that can assist you.

And when you renew, the activation will take 72 hourS!!!! What if there are virus within that period? Why they cannot activate it right away after you have paid it?
The duration of the renewal is already started but the protection is not yet activated.

One thing more, their user window is not friendly. You cannot delete those accounts that is not already active. It is also hard to add new accounts.

I wish I never bought this kind of product - AVIRA.

If you want to experience what I've said, then buy one for you.

I guess a clean install is the way to go here?

is your version not updating? you should not have to do a clean install unless you have some major issue. all of my systems updated to 624 perfectly.

    To version 15.0.8.624?

    fyi:
    a) One PC auto updated (14.0.7.468 -> 15.0.8.624) via normal update.
    b) Another one updated manually:
Installer for 624 downloaded from the above mentioned Official download page,
    then 624 installed
    on top of the existing

    468.
    As always: no problems. :)

I checked the contact form and it works well, maybe there was a temporary issue.

The license renewal is usual performed within 72 hours, depending when your computer is actively connected to the internet within that time period:

You don't have to wait 72 hrs for Avira to activate your product.
You can activate it manually..... any time you want.....

LOL, I think they let a bunch of kids manage their website updates, I'd never buy a product from such a lousy company

The link to the changelog is correct, just scroll down a bit within the kb article where you see the history of the older updates as well:

Avira Antivirus for Windows - Update 7.2 - December 2014
    http://www.avira.com/de/support-for-home-knowledgebase-detail/kbid/1699

The changelog is recent about Update 8, this update is still ongoing and the overview page will be enhanced soon with an own entry for Update 8 and link to the same kb article.

After spending a long time away from Windows OS, I returned for a wee play. A lot of things I don't miss, like having to run security to feel safe. I'm so used to OS X. But Avira runs nice and light on Win 8.1. The official site did not have the latest update. I had to download from another site (reputable).
