We have the QVMII engine, the cloud engine, Bitdefender and Avira. What's the fifth?

This is excellent news in my opnion. It's good to see that IS is receiving more than just minor updates.

Pretty sure that most people wouldn't class that as an engine. To most users an engine is what is used to detect the malware and stop it dead before you need to do any repairs.

You don't like avira engine? Don't use it.
As for the repair engine, it is classed as such. Just like av engine removes the virus and infected files, so the repair engine restores critical Windows OS files in a clean version.

But we would not call it as an "engine". It just an feature of a AV engine.

It is not an Antivirus engine, but an engine [repair] is.
It is much easier for classification.
And further to that, it is a feature of an antivirus software/program, not engine, as they are separate entities. Since everything is being done in the cloud [malicious code find-and-kill, hash comparison, unknown soft behaviour, comparison of system files with valid/clean ones, anomaly detection, etc...], they all work together to make sure nothing bad remains.
If you find it hard to call it repair engine, then call it repair, I don't know, cloud, feature,....
Whatever the name, it is important it is there to do it's job, and do it very well :)

Does the repair engine replace/restore OS files from the cloud?

Yes, they have a enormous copies of safe files [both original and custom made] so the best/original possible version is delivered.

    Hi,

From where did they get the "custom made" files?

    From:
    - lots of custom made windows floating around in cyberspace
    - automatic/manual contribution/upload of those files.
So, those having original files will get original replacement in case infected, and those with custom ones will get most closest compatible possible.
Long story short, they [Qihoo] did what I wished Comodo to do with their CIS, take the idea from http://www.reimageplus.com/ guys, and implement it in-house.
Of course, it was not on a drawing board.
These guys came up with http://jijiupan.360.cn/ which is, basically, linux "rescue" disk [can go on usb], which restores windows system files that are needed
for boot. Since everything they have is cloud capable, everything they do and can utilize cloud, any info stored there can be taken advantage of.
    Amazing :)

So, which systems can it restore?

    Windows XP Professional SP3 Simplified Chinese version. (Home Edition version is not supported), Windows 7 Win7 Home Basic Edition (Home Basic Edition) 32 SP0, Win7 Home Basic Edition (Home Basic Edition) 32 SP1, Win7 Home Basic Edition (Home Basic Edition) 64 SP0, Win7 Home Basic Edition (Home Basic Edition) 64 SP1, Win7 Home Premium (Home Premium) 32 SP0, Win7 Home Premium (Home Premium) 32 SP1, Win7 Home Premium (Home Premium) 64 SP0, Win7 Home Premium (Home Premium ) 64 SP1, Win7 Ultimate (Ultimate Edition) 32 SP0 Win7 Ultimate (Ultimate Edition) 32 SP1, Win7 Ultimate (Ultimate) 64 SP0 Win7 Ultimate (Ultimate) 64 SP1, Win7 Professional (Pro) 32 SP1, Win7 Professional (Pro) 32 SP0, Win7 Professional (Pro) 64 SP1, Win7 Professional (Pro) 64 SP0.

    How does it do it?

By using 360 cloud reload engine, intelligently matching the user's system and the Microsoft's cloud standard system differences, dynamic download system files and registry, and then reinstall the system through the steps to reinstall and configure the system quickly to a new, rapid and stable system.

1: Low performance machine : balanced with sandboxed browser
    2: Low-to-med: custom with avira
    3: High: Security

    Modes:
    - Gaming: Performance or Balanced
    - Listening to music, watching video: Balanced or Security
    - Safe WWW browsing: Balanced or Security
    - Porn/torrents: Balanced or Security with Sandbox
    - USB/Flash/Email: Security /w sandbox if applicable

This is what I'd recommend or do myself, you find the style for yourself that you like.

BTW, Balanced is capable on it's own, I even use it at work and switch to Security when dealing with unknown USB. So far, so good.

    This year.
Joke aside, as soon as release to public is approved (either stable or beta for more testing), if all goes well, end-feb beg-mar up to mid-march. If there are some bugs reported which might affect performance/protection, then expect further delay :)

It's only MY opinion based on my personal experience.
I've installed 360 IS Free on several Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 computers.
I'd say, it's one of the best FREE AV's right now.

Anyone else getting a "network access failed" on the cloud and QVM engine? I just installed it yesterday and noticed it.

No disruption of service is being recorded.
Are you certain that all traffic with Qihoo is being allowed from firewall's side?

Hmmm. Only have WSA and sandboxie running. WSA is allowing it. Not sure where the issue may be.
