Strictly work-wise, I took control in 2015 and make them normal. 2014 was horrible in comparison. Then again... 2014 started like 2015 did so this may not last. Back to Macrium v6, it is far enough ahead of v5 that I will make the jump when it is released.
Well my reason for pushing on it is to know I can depend on it under fire. Another test. Yesterday I set aside a 15 incremental thread and started a new one. Today when my new thread finished, I tested restoring into the middle of the in active thread and then back. Time to go to old thread 8:24 Time back 8:05. Excellent times. Barry it isn't complicated. Maybe just different. Pete
...and once it's setup (which will be easier with some decent documentation which isn't available yet), you can have your 1-click MANUAL snapshot capability along with a decent SYSTEM protection INCREMENTAL plan running happily in the background... or almost any other plan you desire. No, this isn't for folks who don't wanna know anything, but it really isn't difficult at all once you "see" it. And maybe Pete will be going into a side consulting business offering CUSTOM backup templates for users who don't wanna know anything... yea, that's it!
ROFL. Don't think so. I am a firm believer in people learning this stuff for themselves. Otherwise when and if they get into trouble they won't know anything. That's bad.
Pete, I would like to sign up to be your first client on a custom set up,,,, Once MR v6 is released I will give it a try. I remember trying the free version of MR some years back but when I had to start jumping through hoops to create the recovery media I passed and moved on to Paragon Backup. It was quite simple relative to other programs I have tried. I have a number of friends that I have been struggling with for years regarding backups. I got them on to AX64 and so far all has been well on their systems so we have not had to use it to recover from the occasional mess they get themselves into. I really was hoping that AXTM would be a success (entirely selfish motivation on my part as I have to fix the messes). In short I was hoping MR v6 would be a replacement for AX64 on my friends machines but I am not sure it will be able to. I guess time will tell.
Observation for those Mv6 testers... If you're used to AX64's merging operations, when you merged its BASELINE forward into the next incremental, it took almost as much time as taking the baseline itself. Mv6's method is much different... and much faster, it can merge a compressed 21gB baseline into its next incremental in 42s on my machine, where AX64 would take about 9-10m. This allows TARANTULA MODE (the crawling baseline <"Forever Incremental" as Macrium calls it>) to have almost no effect on the running system when it occurs.
Correct, but most of the data on the partition will remain the same even when trimmed. So IFW will read only most sectors and read/write the sectors that are different e.g. You have a partition with 65gb of data and you uninstall a program that occupies 5gb. Your system after being trimmed will occupy 60gb. Now when you restore the 60gb will remain intact and only the 5gb will be restored. So 60gb sectors will be read only and 5gb sectors will be read+written. In most disks hdds and ssds the above restoration will be faster than writing 65gb of data on the disk. Panagiotis
@zord , @Betonf ... can you tell us what version of Macrium you're running and what OS you are using... the group here probably needs some information to start with.
Macrium Reflect Workstation v6.0.461, OS Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit. Problem occurs when choose each template.
In case it helps, I just successfully scheduled and ran a Grandfather, Father, Son backup. Both the differential and the incremental ran as scheduled. This is on Win7 x64.
Re: zord, Betonf ... I encountered the same problem when attempting to set the frequency to "Daily" and "Everyday" - the program then returns the same error. Moreover, checked checkbox "If missed then run at next start-up" cannot be saved at all. This problem persists in the latest build 461.
From the FWIW Dept for @Betonf , @Selukwe , and @zord ... I'm running HOURLY schedules (7a - 10p) with Selukwe's settings ("Daily" and "Everyday") and DO NOT have "If missed then run at next start-up" selected. All run and save just fine (v6 Build 461 on W7sp1). Will give it a try for you on W8.1.1.
I really do not know where the problem is then. My error reads: Cannot find the path specified. I have deleted the backup configuration file and created a new one but there is still no change, same behavior. I'm on Win7 Ent x86, SP1.
Same here, except from 9a to 5p with almost the same setting. I have unchecked the build synthetic full, so instead of the baseline image growing, it is the first of the current no. increment that grows. Also I now have it running successfully on a 2nd machine. Oops this in response to the Froggies's post
Exactly. No difference. I just can't save my preferred pattern of backup - daily on the first PC start, setting it at 00:00 hrs. with enabled checkbox "If missed then run at next start-up".
Selukwe, I don't have specifics here but it sounds like some permission is missing on your system that you need to enter an item into your standard Windows scheduler, which is the mechanism that Macrium is using to set up these schedules. Or possibly you're being blocked by an AntiVirus/AntiMalware/AntiExploit sort of task. But to me it sounds like the account you're running Macrium under can't make Windows Task Scheduler entries.
This program is driving me crazy ... In TARANTULA MODE ("Forever Incremental"), I'm watching my BASELINE move along from incremental to incremental as far as date/time stamp is concerned WITHIN Macrium. BUT... when I look at that BASELINE file via Windows Explorer, the has been NO CHANGE (Create/Modify/Access and even SIZE information) to the file entry since the file was created almost a week ago. Can anyone tell me (Panagiotis?) how it's possible for a task running under LIVE Windows to make such an hourly change to a file (and it is being merged according to Macrium's log) without causing Windows to change that file entry information? From the above (inside Macrium vs outside Macrium) I cannot tell what's really happening here... and I'm not sure what's REAL. HEEEEEEEEEELP!?!?!?
I do not seem to encounter problems with scheduler - when I set MR6 scheduled backup to weekly, check all days, and set it to, e.g. 18:00, the backup is duly made automatically every day on that time. But I can't save Daily mode, and can't save enabled checkbox "If missed then run at next start-up", which I am most sorry of. I am a single user of my PC and an admin. Any ideas?
