What is Comodo? What do I not see it mentioned in AV-TEST and AV Comparatives tests? What do they have to hide? or do they perform so bad when it comes to protection?

LOL.... there used to be a Comodo crowd here at Wilders that seemed as fanatical as the Webroot Kool-Aid drinkers of today.

I used to use Comodo and I liked it. For awhile, the sandbox and other capabilities were pretty good.

In my opinion, Comodo has not kept up with some of the other AVs out there. But it's a reasonably good product.

They had a fight with me but I have no hard feelings towards users of the product, though I doubt I'll ever be one again.

Comodo is a company that offers programs that destroy users data. Sometimes making their computers un-bootable.
They lie about the causes and exaggerate about up coming fixes. Then ban users from their forums who speak out about what they are doing.
Other than that, they are a very bad company.

The risk varies depending on the type of software. I've never had a problem with CIS, but I did stop using their Time Machine product because some people were having problems uninstalling it. Regarding support all I'll say is you have to look at paid products and choose carefully if you want to be treated professionally.

I've had good luck with Comodo firewall over the years and have run different versions of it on one computer or another at times. I stayed with version 5 firewall for quite a long time before recently installing version 8 Internet Security so I skipped the 6 and 7 versions, but 8 seems pretty decent right now. It runs well and doesn't use much for resources so I am happy. On my tablet I run Trend IS and Sandboxie and like that too. They don't seem to have the most powerful AV component in their security suite, but the firewall with sandbox and HIPS are what save the day anyway.

What is Comodo? You haven't been on here very long, have you?

Comodo might be the best firewall And HIPS out there. Definitely the best free security. However, as others have mentioned, it doesn't always play nice with other programs. Some have also had issues with their customer service. But they are good. Very good.

Me <-- Not a fan of Comodo even for a bit.

But D+ is one of the greatest CHIPS you can get today. I mainly use it just for that and the firewall. Not installed the AV part, not using the autosandbox, not caring about the VirusScope. Version 8.x seem to have cleaned the name of CFW for me, as I consider version 6.x and 7.x to be disastrous.

They didn't even work. Everytime I tried CFW from the 6.x and 7.x families my experience always ended up in a tragedy. IMO, version 8.x has restored the great name of version 5.x.

Thank you. I never had issues with previous versions of CFW, but any has different experiences.

On topic, does anybody have any info on the new av engine they are supposed to be developing?

Haven't heard anything that could shed light.
I just hope they license some reputable engine; because every time they build in-house they screw up.

What are you basing that on? What I stated are facts. The Commodo forum is filled with people who ended up with unbootable computers after using their software.
Comodo portrayed their "Time Machine" as a safe and reliable cutting edge snapshot program of their creation. The fact is they bastardized VERY old obsolete code licensed from HDS all the time telling users otherwise.
I destroyed 2 of my computers with that software.
Take a moment and read their forums for yourself.
