What is your security setup these days?

Been trying out a new setup anticipating migrating over to 64bit soon.
Setup subject to change.

Appguard / Lockdown mode
(after using DefenseWall for many years I want some form of policy restriction)

Sandboxie / Start, run, Internet restrictions, forced programs and forced folders as well as drop rights enabled.
(Have had a lifetime license for SB for a few years now)

Exe Radar Pro / Alert mode
(Already had a lifetime license for this one too)

ShadowDefender / Alway in shadow mode
(This one will stay on my system regardless 32 or 64bit)

Macrium Reflect for backup on an external HD.

Possibly a light Firewall to go along with the rest.

It's back to 360 Internet Security for me, after about 10 different antiviruses in the last week, as the new v5 works fine under Windows 10 (although there is not an offical Windows 10 version yet like these is for 360 Total Security).

Dropped Privacy Badger, it slowed browsing and changed back to OpenDNS due to issues with Norton ConnectSafe. Added Zemana Anti-Malware 2 Beta for on-demand/scanning on boot.

Given the network security, I DMZ policy the DSL (when not in failover capacity) a honeypot system for research purposes, running VMWare. (obviously) I also run multiple servers in the home, including an FTP, Security, Camera, etc.

It's in house, and can aparantly detect some threats that other security products miss.

 

What issues did you experience with Norton ConnectSafe? I only recently started using ConnectSafe from one of your previous suggestions, so I am curious.

 

I love ConnectSafe. It was blocking stuff my son uses, like Inbox.com.. So I opened a ticket with them to try and get some sites whitelisted, I will switch back when they do.

Kerish has an in-house scanner. They used to have an AV product, but migrated it into the Kerish product. They use various databases and honeypots for it. It's actually caught stuff for me before. Not the primary reason I use Kerish, just a bonus.

Changed DNS servers to Swiss Privacy Foundation servers when not using VPN's.

New Router: Netgear AC1750 - R6300v2... w/dd-wrt Giga firmware
New Modem: Netgear DOCSIS 3.0 (CM400-100NAS)

 

Long time since i've posted here...switched from Avast free and Privatefirewall to Avira free and Comodo FW (always loved this combo).To be honest,the browsing speed seems faster and my laptop seems lighter...or it's just my imagination...

PS.11 hours later...yep,it's just my imagination,in fact,it seems the opposite...Back to Avast free and Privatefirewall.

 

How good is this DNS service?

 

So far so good. Browsing seems snappier since the change. And as far as trust goes in terms of privacy... they & Chaos Computer Club are at the top of the list. There is a slight trade off of security though, as Comodo Secure DNS (my previous one) did a great job of blocking known bad sites. But that's a trade off I'm willing to make. I have other measures in place to account for that. But nothing can account for a shady DNS service.

 

Avira Free + Comodo FW/D+ always worked great in tandem for me too but when I used a real-time AV. But that was with Comodo FW/D+ v 5, and Avira was probably on like v6 or so at the time too. Not sure how it'd work now, things may have changed. Avast was always heavier on my setups than Avira.

 

F-secure ultra lite Antivirus(Beta) , Malwarebytes Pro. and windows firewall control 4......

 

Security on my Windows 7 ultimate 32 bits desktop:

1. FILTER: WFW 2-way > Norton DNS > AVG Linkscanner > µMatrix hpHost
2. HARDEN: Disabled risk-ware, 16bits, cmd, scripts, user autoruns, new tasks
3. MITIGATE: ACL threatgates > SRP basic user > UAC block unsigned > EMET

 

And for me Avast is the lightest...PC's are sometimes like humans,they have likes and dislikes...

 

Here is what I have on my three laptop computers:

Lenovo Ideapad Y510, Vista 32-bit - Webroot av and Hitman Pro

Compaq Presario CQ62-214NR, Windows 7 64-bit - AVG Internet Security 2015 and Hitman Pro

 

I found Avast pretty light only if I disable 'Intelligent Stream Scanning', largely because I think it may be dated technology, and suitable for mostly slower networks/connections. I cache over half a million websites, cache my own DNS, have a full Cat6a Gbe network, and a 150Mbps+ connection. Turning off ISS in Avast resulted in impressive speed improvements, and I find Avast quite light right now.

(at least the Avast Business 2015 Hosted, no clue on consumer grade stuff)

 

LOL it`s funny how you know when to revert back to what actually agrees with your system as opposed to what you think might.
