The question should be "why the devil do you use a Mac?"

The title of that article could not be any more misleading.
You can see from what I've bolded that they are counting iPhones and iPads as computers!

Personally I prefer PCs to Macs because I love Windows and absolutely hate OS X with a passion. It's got nothing to do with price. I have had displeasure of using using Macs several times in the last few years, and I'm glad it's only been a few times. When compared with OS X, it seems that a lot of thought has been put into the design of Windows, whereas OS X is really badly designed, and awkward to use.

Some will say that they hate Apple, OS X, they won't touch anything produced by Apple with a ten foot pole.
Others may say they own and use a Mac...but they still keep a computer running Windows around for playing Games, for example.

There is no singel answer to your question, but one is the OS (of course) and the software you use. Threads like this tend to start a flamewar about why this or that is better, why Macs suck, why Windows suck...let's hope the Wilders members is mature enough to discuss like adults.

But the title is a bit wrong, as Microsoft is the software developer that makes Windows.
And Macs are computers that runs OS X (out of the box) and is made by Apple.

And no, last I checked Macs did not sell more worldwide than PC's running Windows.

Why a normal human being would use a Mac is beyond my comprehension.

I agree it's an unfair analyses... Here in Seoul, I've noticed that corporations use exclusively Windows (Windows 7 or XP) and universities use almost exclusively Apple... As far as I know Apple has always courted educational institutions from the very outset giving amazing discounts to students. As for my own experience I've never owned an Apple computer, therefore I cannot judge, but my Samsung machine costs almost half of a McBook Pro having the same performance... A strong argument indeed, my wallet!

I guess it's because I find it rather limited compared to Windows. Also, there are some illogical things about OS X, for example, menus being shown at the top of the screen rather than the top of the Window.

Once, I was copying some files from one Mac to another, and I got a message saying that some files could not be copied becuase they were system files. But, the message did not say what files.

Apple sales just over took Asus at number 5 so there is NO way they have over taken Microsoft. That said they are far more secure than a Windows machine out of the box anyway.

Macs may be fine and I suspect a lot of new people are buying them because they discovered Apple through the iPhone and iPad, but as a Windows user I find it hard to work with them because we can't use the same programs (or same versions) and even if a Windows workstation is provided at work they often lack proper Windows skills. Linux users are pretty rare, but the few I know tend to be very techy and also good at Windows.

I wonder, is it discrimination per law if you ask potential empployees what operating system they use at home (so you can rule out the Mac users)? (or vice versa if the workplace uses Macs)

They are not widespread. They are widespread in legal studios, in offices and in family doctors for different reasons.
In legal studios and offices they are accounted as expenses of the office -> a part of their costs will be leveraged from the taxes.
As for the doctors, most of the times, are gifts (either entirely or partially as shopping coupons) from the pharmaceutic companies.

I've been curious at times about OSX. It's based on BSD, so how bad can it be ;) But I refuse to buy their "special" hardware in order to do that. Not even used.

    It's a despicable philosophy :thumbd:

I probably hate Macs because I've been using Windows since Windows 95. It's just too different. And besides, I wouldn't want to go to all the trouble to find a replacement for all of my favorite apps.

    Is there a VM approach?

I'm not interested enough to build a box that will run OSX. I mean, seriously

The big thing about general computers is hardware independence, no?
