Bitdefender was the issue....

In the past I have had issues with BD. I always considered it to be a great engine wrapped in junk software. In the past couple of years when I tried it it seemed to be less buggy.

I recently discovered one MAJOR bug. On Dec.5,2014, I got conned by all the flash about "The Brain", which it turns out is nothing new,into buying BD Total Security 2015 Multi Device. Hadn't used it in a while, but decided to give it another try. Turns out my one year license that I purchased a little over a month ago has EXPIRED. LMAO. Another Avangate scam

 

It's a shame really, one of the best engines that's used even by many AV, crippled with the buggiest software. Strange how the AVs that uses the BD engine such as EAM or BullGuard don't suck so much, but Bitdefender in itself it a horrible AV

 

Don't Know about BullGuard but Emisoft's outstanding products use their own behavior blocker. Maybe that's where the BD problem lies. My biggest issues with BD was at some point I'd lose update definitions and product wouldn't update properly. But this past year with the exception of one morning, BD ran pretty smooth. BD Total security did give me an issue when browsing with Firefox. It would go to the correct address but I had to reload the page to see the new URL's page. Did not happen with every site, but happened often enough to be annoying.

But given my recent problem with my $89 one year subscription to Total Security Multi - Device lasting only 7 weeks, that's all history. Ever try to get Avangate to help?? Take a look at the BD Forums today-2015 Products/General and the issues reported with trying to correct opting out of Avangate's notorious auto-renewals. Even though I opted out of auto renewal, the ultimate irony will come next December when Avangate bill's me for an auto renewal. Even if you read carefully enough to see it, opting out rarely works with Avangate.

As I have stated in a thread on the BD Forum, unless the CEO of Bitdefender is married to the daughter of Avangate's owner I can't figure out why Bitdefender still uses them as their billing agent. There are several other European/American billing agents such as Cleverbridge which I have NEVER heard any complaints about.

 

Simple bro, cut your credit card then call your bank and say it was stolen, they will issue you a new one. noone can auto charge you again since the details they have on file won't work

 

That's your opinion and as far as it goes, its an opinion.

Many other members including my self have no issues, I have it on two PC's and you don't even know it's there.

 

Where are the metrics that prove that Bitdefender is the 'buggiest' software? Please, facts not FUD.

I agree. I have had no more issues with Bitdefender than I have experienced with any other antivirus. I have held a Bitdefender license since 2007 so it's not like I have tested it for maybe an hour and then made this comment.

 

I've used the uninstall tool, there is a little performance gain but I guess the damage is already done and the boot is little slower...

Try Trend Micro, after installing it tonight, letting it update and do a full system scan, this is the lightest AV on earth! one thing that I noticed is my web browsing has become so fast. webpages load instantly! I love it

I had ESET licenses collecting dust myself. So I sold one off to a friend of the family, and I am using the other on non-essentially, less used systems at home, and a server or two. Since nothing much happens on those nobody is going to complain about slowness. A good use for otherwise wasted licenses. I will be skipping ESET for a few development cycles, and monitoring them for big improvements in the weight of the product, along with improved URL scanning, and some sort of DNA/Fingerprint technology additions.

 

Oh well, now that I am not having any noise about it I'll wait for sometime.. Trend I'll have to purchase one, n right now AV purchase isn't in my roadmap ..

Guess if the web surfing is slow I'll simple disable it.. No harm till the AV is running well...

 

After 15 months with Bitdefender, an update crashed computer and required a full reload .. the HELP? from Bitdefender consisted of trying to sell me an update and different program. Now have over 40 emails and still no closer to solution, trying for refund, but not holding breathe; this is possibly the worst company I have ever dealt with in over 30 years on the web!! Yes, the product is good, if you can get it to stay running and renew automatically .. that's the sickest joke ever. Wouldn't recommend them to anyone, ever.

 

Been with Bit for over two years now never any type of crash what so ever, customer service can be slow but they have always resolved my issues. Very good software.. $.02

It's was a WEIRD update procedure to go from BIS2015 to BIS2016. Very convoluted. Disgusting really. Took me weeks to get sorted. Shameful of BD. I wouldn't dare install any BD paid products on other folks PCs.

I'm running Bitdefender Internet Security 2016 on two systems, Windows 10 Pro and Windows 7 HP, both 64 bit for several months.

On 10, default "do it BD's way" install except I bumped AV, AVC and IDS to Aggressive.

On 7, Profiles off, Paranoid, everything to a user intervention setting where available or the usual suspects (like Optimization) off.

Running smoothly and never a hiccup on either system. And 10 is running on my old clunker E8400 tower with 4GB RAM and an 80GB PATA hard drive (the SATA controller is broke). The 7 box is a still smokin' i7-3770K tower.

Sidebar: I've had BD Free running nicely on an i5 2nd gen Windows 7 x64 laptop for almost three years.

I've used their products on a bunch of systems since about 2007 and some of the SOFTWIN stuff prior. I've tried others, including some "Bitdefender engine" ones, but I'm set with BD from now on. Well, until something else blows the top off the industry...

 

In the past I have had problems with BD, and little help from their CS. I went back to KIS a little over a year ago, and had problems removing BD. While there is no denying its effectiveness, for me there are too many other problems to use it.

I found that while trying Bit Defender AV Free on Windows XP that switching Internet Properties -> Security -> Internet Zone to HIGH impaired Bit Defender. Since I used that setting to hog-tie Internet Explorer and inhibit its illicit use, Bit Defender had to go.

 

I was using Bit Defender TS 2016 on Windows 10 Pro 64 bit. It worked great for a couple weeks, then when it came time for Window's updates it blocked them. I had to uninstall it.

 

Never in two years has bit blocked a MS update.

 

Perhaps BitDefender provides superior protection, but actually it is not really to use at the time. An old error has resurfaced: BitDefender consumption gradually the bandwidth and so slows surfing. The component Traffic Light has a flaw: It prevents the connections to the servers are terminated once the site visited is left. The connections are closed immediately, but are kept open and get FIN_WAIT2 status. This can be observed with the TCPView tool from Sysinternals very good. Especially this is noticeable when streaming videos. Surfing is gradually slow, the browser reacts slower.
