TF2 is also nice (I have a few hundreds hours in it), but I don't have patience to play it because you either play with try harders or complete noobs that need schooling to learn the basics.
    Command & Conquer from OpenRA
    Captain Claw

Cool I will check it out. BTW, a bit OT but what's up with gaming platforms like Origin and Steam? Can't we download standalone PC demo's anymore, I hate this stuff!

I personally like the launchers, it keeps it all contained. Uplay, Origin, but not a big fan of Steam. Still it's better than stand alones.

Same here, although I'd find them pointless with less than 2 games. Not home right now, will edit post with recommendations later.

*Little Fighter 2, Rumble Box, Happy Wars, Path of Exile, Peggle Extreme, Super Crate Box, SuperTuxKart, FRAXY, Misao, etc. More if you include Chrome games.

So now I need to install 3 (or more) separate platforms, just to download a freaking demo? Not sure what to think about it, but it's probably a marketing tool for those companies, to keep track of all games that you install and buy. I haven't downloaded any games in years, so that's why I'm surprised by it. Luckily you can still download standalone demo's of older games, but no such luck with for example FIFA 14 and 15.

Where does he say that? You only need to install whatever platform the game requires, which is one of them. Plus, you can use that platform for multiple games, which is the whole point of them (centralized save data).

That's not what I meant, I was trying to make a point. Those are the 3 big game developers, so for newer games it's likely that you will need to install them all. I just hope I can install them "sandboxed" with Sandboxie, because I don't want to pollute my system.

This game is actually a sarcasm to RPG genre in case if you didn't get it the first time.

Yeah, yeah... I know mantra is looking for freeware war strategy games. But he also said to list our favourites. So I'm not doing anything wrong here. =V

Worms games are fun, but Team17 destroyed it a lot by milking the franchise severely. Even Andy Davidson had left Team17, though I don't know if this has anything to do with the franchise itself. I honestly really hate the 3D games.

BTW mantra, there are some freeware alternatives to Worms. I can't remember where was my reference, but some of them seemed pretty decent. I have a feeling that I got them mentioned in the Team17 forum, which is now had closed thanks to the company's decision. Damn them! They killed the forum... they even killed the donkey! What were they thinking?!

I remember using the donkey and destroying the area. :ouch: And RejZoR's avatar always reminds me how hard it was to control the super-sheep. IIRC a direct hit costs 70HP damage. And of course, the HHGs and banana bombs are also fun to use. :argh:

Oh my... fun ol' times. :D

I managed to find the aforementioned freeware alternatives of Worms:

    Hedgewars
    www.hedgewars.org

    Warmux
    gna.org/projects/warmux/

    OpenLieroX
    www.openlierox.net

There might be more of them but these are the freeware alternatives that I could remember being mentioned back then.

A donkey! A donkey! My kingdom for a donkey! :D
