Well that didn't last.. I participated in a GOTD with Kerish Doctor, promising 3 years for free. I followed all of their guidelines, and used it within the license restrictions. Now I find they 'expired' all of the keys just a couple months after the giveaway. I checked with a few people I know that also got one, and they expired all of those as well. Bad form!
I emailed Kerish support, and explained this. They emailed back within 2 hours saying they had to kill the key because they discovered 'massive' abuse.. It was being used by hundreds upon hundreds of thousands of people, which went beyond the scope of the Giveaway. They gladly gave me a personal key for my home as an apology, and extended it another year. support@kerish.org
My Kerish had been working with a three year licence I got a while back as a giveaway. However, after I read your post I checked it again. After I launched it (it wasn't runnning in the backgound for some reason) and then installed the latest updates, the licence got blocked too. When I've got some money in my bank account I may purchase a licence.
Right now they offer 1 year additional free with purchase. A great deal - 2 years for 3 computers for $19... However just email support, and explain you were part of the giveaway, and the key is dead. They will give you a new 3 year key for free. Interestingly, Kerish doctor caught a couple pieces of malware about a month ago when I removed my UTM's to rebuild the network, and my son was running Kaspersky. Kerish successfully quarantined 2 of them that KAV missed. I find my systems run a lot better with Kerish keeping things in order in the background.
@zapjb It appears that development had been abadoned, as the program has not been updated since November 2013. It is exceptionally light, more so than just about every other antivirus in my expereience. However, it suffers because it is slower to receive definition updates than other antiviruses using Bitdefenders scan engine. Because of this, most people would be better of with another Bitdefender based antivirus such as Ad-Aware or if they have old hardware Virus Chaser. On the plus side the update server is no longer really slow, so it doesn't take forever to download the initial definition updates anymore.
I just purchased a license as 2 years for $19 is an excellent deal. I thought it was worth supporting the developer, rather than trying to get another free license.
Yeah I'd be happy to support them. But it was a free giveaway after all, so I will use that for a few years, and then buy. The free giveaway served it's purpose of introducing me to the product, and getting me to really appreciate how good it is, and how much better my machines run with it.
