Gee, you guys really crack me up...I can barely remember the last time anyone complained about excessive FPs...why drag that old 'chesnut' out again, especially as there has been a new version release since that last time, not to mention new versions of the Web Threat Filter.

I humbly suggest that you get yourselves current with a product before making sweeping comments like that. I won't dream make similar comments about other security apps that I have used in the past and have disappointed.

    I agree.

I don't remember any FP's with WebRoot, definitely one of the better AV's out there...

The main reason I use Webroot is because it has been the least problematic antivirus I have found. I no longer want an antivirus that I am required to babysit or worry if it's going to run correctly or brick my system with the next update. I don't remember the last time I experienced a false positive with Webroot. I don't know of any antivirus that has never allowed a PUP/PUA to install or that has never had a false positive whether it be file or url.

One thing about the Web Filter and most people think they are getting FP's! Most times it's something happening on the Web Page like something it's not supposed to be doing and it gets flagged I have personally been working with the CTO and his staff of Webroot BrightCloud as I say this it's in Alpha/Beta Testing right now WSA will be using a Web Filter Driver that supports the Browser Extensions so again it's new tech so they will be testing quite thoroughly before it's released to Consumers and via the Business Endpoints right now it's not deployed to the Business Endpoints as it never had it even though it says it in the Online Console already it's not deployed so this will be all new to the Business Endpoints. When it is released of course I will post the WSA Update Change log! And all the FP's that have been posted here and at the Community I have foreword the links to the posts onto the BrightCloud Team and as always if you post FP's here be sure to Submit a Support Ticket and they will let you know what's going on! And like @ProTruckDriver I only had few FP's and got them corrected ever since BrightCloud was included into WSA late 2013.

    Thanks,

    Daniel ;)

Just got the $4.99 one year deal for Webroot antivirus through Newegg. As light as I always remembered it. This is due to Prevx I assume? How has the company changed or upgraded the Prevx software? I used Prevx before Webroot bought it.

Prevx has come a long way since Webroot rebranded it as SecureAnywhere; there have been many changes/advancements. I also used Prevx but it's been so long that I can't remember the old feature set.

Total transformed as to be unrecognisable from Prevx3 (those who got a glimpse of Prevx4 may see some similarities) other than the lightness, the concept behind the software, i.e., what Joe originally designed (which thankfully is still very much the guiding principle), etc.

But IMHO WSA is the worthy heir to Prevx...:thumb:

Here's something odd I noticed. I was checking some online shopping sites and found two books related to webroot. Did some search and it seems these books are primarily based on wikipedia article. Here are the ISBNs

I wouldn't either. It's probably a copy of the wikipedia article. :argh:

I installed Adguard for windows and HMPA 3 and now WSA has protected the Exe's for them in App Protection.

You can leave it that way or remove if you like? Just as long it's not under Deny!

A Brief History of Malware (Webroot) WebCast

Given by Webroot's own Grayson Milbourne, Director of Security Intelligence, Webroot
    Jan 19 2015 1:00 pm EST

    45 mins
There was more Malware in 2014 than all Malware measured since 1984! Today's malware now hides not only in blacklisted websites and email attachments - it may emanate from the Web's most popular sites, from "Friends" on popular social networking sites, or from bots that reside on the own corporate network. In this special webcast the presenter will take a step back and review the history of malware, its purpose then, and its purpose now.

Why not Deny? What does that do? Denes the application from accessing userdata?

Since it's Security Software sure why not under Deny! http://www.webroot.com/En_US/Secure...6_IDProtection/CH6c_ManagingProtectedApps.htm

    Cheers,

    Daniel :)

    Managing protected applications
You can provide additional security for software applications that may contain confidential information, such as Instant Messaging clients or tax preparation software. By protecting these applications, you secure them against information-stealing Trojans like keyloggers, man-in-the-middle attacks, and clipboard stealers. You can add any applications to the Protected Applications list and assign them to one of the protection levels:

    • Protect. “Protected applications” are secured against information-stealing malware, but also have full access to data on the system. You might want to add financial management software to the category. When you run a protected application, the Webroot icon in the system tray displays a padlock:
      http://www.webroot.com/En_US/SecureAnywhere/PC/Content/Resources/Images/Icon_lock.png
    • Allow. “Allowed applications” are not secured against information-stealing malware, and also have full access to protected data on the system. Many applications unintentionally access protected screen contents or keyboard data without malicious intent when running in the background. If you trust an application that is currently marked as “Deny,” you can change it to “Allow.”
    • Deny. “Denied applications” cannot view or capture protected data on the system, but can otherwise run normally.
As you work on your computer, SecureAnywhere automatically adds web browsers to the Protected Applications list and assigns them to the “protected” status.

I want to Protect and Deny at the same time. Is that possible? I want Chrome protected from keyloggers and at the same time I don't want Chrome to view or capture protected data.

Also, what is the "protected data" deny claim to protect?

Please give me some help protecting OneDrive. Skydrive.exe, located in the system32 folder, does not show while trying to add an application. The Webroot window is not showing all files.

The attached shows the file in explorer.

Yes, when opening an explorer window by clicking "add file" in WSA not all files are displayed plus "Folder and Search Options" cannot be selected; don't know why that's the case.

Your saying you can't add more to ID Shield? No problems here. And I'm sure Skydrive/Onedrive has a secure connection between your system and the Cloud? All of WSA's communication with it's Cloud is secured and encrypted. Also since WSA 2013 both HTTP & HTTPS are secured by ID Shield. If your that concerned use a VPN as well but I don't.

And after I click to add another.

The protected data is data from the protected process; cookies, clipboard data etc. So you can't protect a program and then deny access to it's own data.

I see. So if I have Chrome set to protected, and for instance Skype set to deny, Skype cannot access Chrome's protected data?

What of other processes not added to the Identity protection? For instance Steam. Can it access protected data of Chrome? Or is that denied only of it's "suspicious" activity?
