It's up to you. As usual, also the version 14.0.7.468 (via the automatic update) is a step by step rollout.
Is it true Avira uses Mixpanel Spyware? Mixpanel is starting to be classified as Malware. Emsisoft detects Mixpanel activity as Spyware. I block Mixpanel at the UTM level. It's amazing to me Mixpanel has skirted under the radar for so long. https://www.avira.com/en/general-privacy 4. Mixpanel Additionally, Avira uses technologies from Mixpanel, Inc. ("Mixpanel") within some of our products to carry out statistical evaluations allowing Avira to continuously improve and optimize product features and make their designs more appealing. Mixpanel uses Cookies to detect your browser type, operating system, language settings, the search criteria that you enter and your IP address and then send such data to a Mixpanel server in the USA.
Yes, in Avira Free the default setting is 6 hrs. But you can set manually the update intervals= https://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/avira-2013.332564/page-2#post-2121150
Avira has been doing fairly well in recent AV Comparatives Real World Tests with 0 to few false positives for the past 7 months, and I guess if you have a clean machine, that's what really counts. It appears, however, to be not so hot on scanning detection and real-time, on-access proactive detection. FWIW: Say what you will about YouTube testing videos, but this guy does very thorough and careful on demand scanning and real time proactive testing. I've watched all of his recent videos. They average 30 minutes in length. He actually opens all files that the scanner failed to remove. He does not test downloads or web blocking blocking in most of his tests. You don't have to watch the whole thing. There is no voice so he occasionally throughout his videos adds to a cumulative word pad document, which he opens to add comments and results to from time-time, so if you want, you can go to close to the very end of his prolonged test videos to see the results-though watching the entire test would show you how thorough and careful his test methods are. In his Avira Pro 2015 test, among other things, Avira's detection rate was %97.52, but Avira left malware in memory, failed to detect or block malware from disabling Avira's FireWall and Scanner, and failed to protect browser and Windows Security Center Settings. To use his words-"A little disappointing." ~Link removed.~ See https://www.wilderssecurity.com/posts/1041384/ You should check out his entire channel. It's highly illuminating. In respect to on-demand and on-access scanning his tests are the best and most professional on YouTube, IMHO. Of course one never knows. He might be an employee of an A/V Security Product Company and tailored his samples to their detection modules. But I doubt it, as several security products have performed well in his tests.
This guy is actually pretty good. Pay attention to this other tests, some kool aid might be spilled. ;-)
Of course one never knows one way or the other, that's why reputable tests organizations are probably the only ones that might get closer to a certain objectivity in testing AVs. I don't think one should rely on any AV as a first layer of defense (having a working backup-restore application is an absolute must), however, I wanted to provide a real life scenario of Avira's effectiveness with my post #2992, the use of MBAM, HerdProtect, and HitmanPro produced clean reports in terms of eventual leftovers. I've never tested malware per se, but I've been exposed to a lot of malware by plugging in third party USB flash drives, and Avira never missed anything in the last 7 years.
That will be the green coloured kool aid ? Yeah he is good and he`s been doing them for some time now.Must check him out again. Regards Eck
Even if AVIRA has 100% I can't stand it's retarded behavior and interface. Like 10 years have passed, everyone else evolved and they are still stuck in this Win98 feel interface that's just plain awkward. And all they've done to it is to stuck some crappy "launcher" on top of it. Ugh!?
On the other hand, there are a lot of Avira users who they like the present GUI and they hate the fancy Metro style ones. And I think that is the majority who says loud: K.I.S.S. ----- I totally agree.
That security center crap thingie they introduced. And the way how detection popup is idiotic where you have to click it in order to remove crap. Why the hell it doesn't do that automatically?! And tons of other similarly moronic things.
i love the interface myself i personally wish they would leave it alone and not change it. but i also love eset's interface also and people here have said i was crazy
Well, avast! interface is great. AVG interface is quite decent if you forget the ads, Kaspersky interface is awesome, Panda Free interface is awesome, but AVIRA, ugh. Didn't like it before and still don't like it. Which is not suprising since they haven't really done much to it since version 6 from like 10 years ago when it was still downloading entire siganture base on every update. Anyone remembers those days? To be honest, they just facelifted that same interface from the past. And it feels like a celebrity that got a facelift and forgot she was already old 10 years ago...
I 100% agree with you RejZoR. Avira may have a great detection but their UI is horrible and 15 years dated. The way it cleans up malware is absurd. Lukefilewalker scanning after each detection. Just remove it without any user interaction. Bitdefender, Kaspersky, Avast, Panda and others all remove malware without any sort of user interaction.
May I have a some clarifying for Avira GUI about the Graphic Interface,I want to says it depends on what your interest... I must say something the AVG gui is completely horrible and ugly,it's not cup of my tea after they were intend to use many Metro style same as f-secure Messy up with a lots of tiles,my eyes was eaily getting tired than their old GUI I would prefer their version 8 even back to the old version 7 instead of this ugly and messy GUI regrading that what we called as Generic Repair,This problem I have been suggested since version 10 in beta stage(near 4 years ago) I suggest they should not set as default or make an option to let the users chosen to perform generic repair after each malware has been founded by Files Guard Somthing I don't know you forgotten or not Kaspersky also have this kind of action but it will do that only the malware cannot be cleanup online and perform a scanning at your next login session before it showing your desktop
i personally hate the avg gui i mean i could live with it if i had to but would not choose it at all. and i also dont like the avast gui much it is better than avg but still not my cup o tea.
Indeed, and if had to time how long have I opened the Avira UI in the last month, it would probably be 1 minute altogether. It's not the kind of thing that one would be gawking at for hours on end.
Exactly... who sits around and stares at their AV's UI all day? Lol... I thought an AV was about detection and protection.
