Panda Security 2015 solutions released

People still use Avast? I monitor 32,000 machines and have never seen Avast installed - at least in the last couple of years.

 

Wow really ?? These sure are late to the party when it comes to different technologies interacting with each other. The industry has been on this path since the category of Internet Security products for first introduced by Norton almost 15 years ago, moving away from standalone Antivirus, Personal Firewall, Antispyware etc.

 

I don't have it on 64bit but I have it on an old XP computer with no problems and have not a false positive yet but that may be due to my surfing habits.

Very nice, the stub installer didn't work on some computer.

 

Just bought a 2 year / 5 PC license of Panda Antivirus Pro 2015 after trying it for a while. I must say it's super light with no FPs, good PUP protection, and didn't give me any system quirks like other AVs do! This is my new favorite AV!

I love its interface and how it has an option to automatically deal with threats or simply notify you before taking an action.

Also like the fact that when trying to add exclusions, it shows all hidden system files without me having to first go to Folder Options and enable them from there, this is what Kaspersky and NOD32 do as well which makes it very convenient for me when adding exclusions, Panda is the only other AV I have tried that has this small nice feature

 

The test url page does not work with this. Does this ignore it or do i need to download the old filter.

 

Oh forgot to mention, at first, I didn't like the GUI, the 2nd page of the GUI included features of the higher editions like the online storage and what not, I was disgusted immediately as that's what most AV programs are doing, take BullGuard for example.....

Now to my surprise, at the bottom of the GUI, there is an EDIT button, if you click it, you can move the items around like the less used icons to the 2nd page, but best of all, you can actually click X on an entire button and that whole thing is gone! so you can customize the GUI to your liking! I actually think it's a very smart way that gives users flexibility.

 

The new versions of Panda Antivirus Pro and Panda Internet Security are great. No slowdowns, no crashes - but they are very expensive.

They aren't cheap but I think they're not bad either. I got a 5 user / 2 year license for $100 USD as they had a 40% discount when I visited the site yesterday. Without that discount they're crazily expensive though I agree

 

I was sent an email today with a file called Document.zip

I checked the email and it had another file in it called Document.scr

That seemed like a virus 100% so I scanned the file with Panda Antivirus PRO 15.0.4 and it said the file was clean!

I then checked the Virus Total results and most big AVs like Kaspersky, NOD32, Norton, etc, detected it as a virus

Now I know Panda's detection rates are pretty good according to the last AV Comparatives results I've seen but how come it failed to detect this virus?

You have a point, just reinstalled Windows 7 as I hated Windows 8.....so I'm gonna reinstall Panda, I like how light it is compared to.... (you know what I'm talking about)

 

8.1 with Classic Shell = Superior Win7.

The new Panda feels good. I tossed it on a test machine. It's detections weren't amazing - then try to run malware and it becomes amazing. But I tested the same executing samples with Norton 2015, and Norton blocked them all as well. So I am sticking with Norton since I already have it pushed to my desktops, and paid for 2 years. Otherwise, this is the first version of Panda I have liked.

I never said the interface is what makes me not like Windows 8.1 bro....

I have actually mastered and like the new interface, putting my fav. apps on the metro screen is actually faster than searching for a program in the start menu so your argument is a m00t point.

Why I didn't like it....

1) My internet connection became much slower (not downloading files, that was fine, it was browsing and webpage loading with the exact same browser / extensions / setup)

2) Check this issue......everytime I restart, Windows 8.1 wants to reinstall my Realtek Card Reader driver......doesn't happen with Windows 7 ....... http://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads/57904-My-SD-Card-being-installed-every-reboot

3) Every single performance benchmark I ran, Windows 7 scores higher, 3DMark, AS SSD, CrystalDiskMark, Passmark, which is very weird since 8.1 is supposed to have better support for newer hardware, but it's not

4) The OS itself, after booted, Windows 7 is much snappier

5) Hate the fact that half the settings I want are in the Control Panel and the other half is in Metro PC Settings

6) Not much control over WLAN/LAN network profiles as there is in Windows 7, in Windows 7, you can define every aspect of settings for Public/Private Networks, in Windows 8.1 they are sort of combined with no segregation of the settings. Example, I want to have 56 bit encryption for file sharing for home networks, but 128bit for public networks, in Windows 8.1, it only allows you to choose one setting for both and not separately

7) In 8.1, I keep getting an error in Event Log Viewer that my CPU X (where X stands for the number of logical processor) has some decreased speed or throttling even though I am on the high performance plan, in Windows 7 I don't get this nonsense

I hate the fact that every time I open a file with some new extension, I get an annoying popup saying that I have other files that can handle this extension, annoying as heck! I know it appears once for every extension but it's way too annoying and useless

Sorry, 8.1 is not for me, I am not here to start an 8.1 vs 7 point, just stating my 2 cents worth

on the positive side, Windows 8.1 DPI scaling is night and day better than 7, if I set 125% scaling in Windows 7, things look either too big or just weird, in Windows 8.1, it feels like this is the native resolution and things look much crisper in color and edges. Wish I could have a Windows 7 with the 8 kernel (no I don't mean Classic Shell or any other start menu alternative I don't care about the start menu, I mean the quirks I mentioned above)

 

Ok now after reinstalling Windows 7, this time I enabled the option in Panda to scan compressed files and it detected the virus. Dunno if before it didn't detect it because I didn't enable "Scan compressed files" or because they had updated their signatures.....

I like how it didn't auto delete it, it just stopped it and asked me if I want to exclude it or neutralize it That setting is by default by the way

 

I really like this new Panda. I also like how Panda detects state sponsored crap. A couple of years ago I was cleaning a system of someone fairly... Important. Found an unclassified, and extremely sneaky trojan. I sent it to Panda labs who told me it was from the CIA and they classified it as such. Any deals on this for tons of computers in the home? I noticed the 'unlimited devices' thing, does that factor ALL computers in the home, or just a single computer, and unlimited 'other' non-computer devices?

This is the first Panda version I would consider running.. Also the Web Protection seems good. Better than Norton, worse than Trend, but good.

 

1) I agree with you, very impressive. I also tried installing the Shark 007 Codec Pack, it allowed the installation but neutralized the junkware that was in it, it was a separate EXE file that would install crapware, so thus, I was able to complete the installation minus the bad stuff

3) Wait, where did you see this unlimited devices thing? I never heard about that, that's why I purchased a 5 user license....

Additionally, I asked on their forums how does Panda deal with reinstallations of the product because I do format quiete often, a guy on their forum said that there is a

"The number of activations in different machines is based on the MUID (Machine Unique IDentifier)
This MUID won't change if you only reinstall the antivirus so it will still count as one activation
However, if you format the PC, this MUID will be different than the one it had before and it will be identified as a new activation"

So I asked well what if I do format? the MUID will be different then, how will I properly reinstall it or remove the license from my current installation......and been 2 days with no replies......their forum and support are horrible.....never once did I get an email to any of my concerns that I sent......their forums are even worse.....rarely does anyone reply.....

but the product itself is great!

Basically, it's a good antivirus with no support, use it as is.... I hope some employee from Panda here see this and tells me where the heck is my VIP support? there is NO support PERIOD!

Sounds very fishy to me as they didn't have such a thing on their website. Furthermore, if it was true about this unlimited devices (sort of what Avira does which is not true since you are actually limited to 3 devices), then the person on their forums who replied to me would've said it doesn't matter about reinstallations since you are free to install it on all the devices that you own, but instead, he was telling me about different MUIDs when you reinstall Windows, thus, I highly doubt that Panda has such unlimited device thing.
