I don't see how Gmail and Chrome are crappy compared to their competitors. Or is this idealism speaking?
Gmail with JavaScript enabled is a nightmare on old machines. Yahoo Mail (in basic mode) works just fine. And Chrome is a joke of browser, just one example: there's no way to put tabs on bottom. It's also a huge resource hog. No such problems with Opera v12.
You consider Yahoo's basic mode, but not Gmail's? Putting tabs to the bottom is a very subjective choice that I don't see the need for. On newer machines, this so-called resource hog is more efficient than trying to conserve RAM. For the vast majority of users, I don't see the joke. And back to Rapport, which means speaking with our wallets still work at least.
That's the thing, it's MY opinion, I don't mean to speak on behalf of other people. If 90% of the world thinks that Chrome is already a good browser, I couldn't care less, because I have my own needs. I do agree that on new machines, certain things are less of an issue, like startup time and resource usage. Fact is, that on old machines, both Firefox and Chrome are a joke when it comes to this. While Opera 12, can run on both new and old machines. And BTW, the "Standard view" in both Yahoo and Gmail suck, compared to the "basic view" ones. But even the basic version of Gmail is crappy.
