Well I honestly don't think that this would be the reason for the increase of downloads overnight, but I did send off a proposal yesterday morning to my organization. But it looks like it gained steam through the email system and a lot of the programmers/developers must be trying it on their home and possibly work computers. I'll have to check with management and see how this even got into the email system in the first place.

EDIT: Well I guess it is true. It was the internal email system. Hopefully this will result in even more Pro sales and general revenue in whatever way VS generates with use of the Free versions as well. Time will tell. But it looks positive. I basically wrote a thorough review along with my recommendation. I highly doubt they will allow it within the workplace, but certainly will be great to protect their home computers with so as to not bring any active infections into the workplace in the first place. A lot of them still work from home and of course get their fancy high powered business laptops to bring back and forth. Interesting. Whoops! Are the downloads and IPs coming in from all over US and Canada or what?

Cool, thank you, I appreciate that! It looks like around two thirds are coming from North America, and one third from elsewhere, but it is really hard to say. But we are getting around 5-10 per minute... they are going to crash our servers. I have already emailed our web server guy, hopefully we will be ok. Actually, our server had already crashed at least once after the pcmag review, so I don't know what is going to happen ;).

Well, hopefully the servers hang in there and who knows how long it will stay steady like that for. It will be all good, hopefully more current and future revenue.

I have a question for you out of curiosity. If you want, you can answer through email or PM if you feel better that way. Does the desktop gadget shield along with the incorporated collaboration with VirusTotal bring in revenue for VS? If so, that makes sense with regards to the Free version. Obviously there needs to be a way to pay the bills still with having a Free version. Anyways, as always, thank you for your time. I've got a lot of respect for you, Dan. And I understand your overall vision with VS and I quite like the vision for your product.

Quick question (sorry, if this has already been asked and answered): can the desktop shield gadget be disabled?

Thank you, I really appreciate that! Well, it is hard to answer that question, and I see what you mean, but let's just put it this way... everyone involved believes that the blacklist scan should be available in both the free and pro version of VS. Actually, at this point, I could care less if we make any money ;). If the idea and product is good enough, we might make money in the long run. If we do not, I am ok with that too ;). But some users have been buying the pro license, and hopefully that will pay for our hosting costs and other expenses. Thank you for your time as well!

Either way, it was a crazy fun ride, and I have met a lot of really cool people along the way, especially on here ;).

This ride isn't over yet, Dan. You've done a great job thus far and certainly VS will succeed even more, provided that you get great developer(s) and that they see the vision and stick around for the long run with the product a well. The sky is the limit. And hopefully this new developer is open and able to implement the KMD as well to be able to switch over to a more efficient and more secure method. I'm excited, to be honest. Has development of the new KMD already started prior to this new developer coming on board?

Oh, I know, but the rough ride is over... the real fun has just begun ;). The new developer help me fix a few issues that were difficult for me in the gui and service, and also wrote the entire KMD, which is all ready to be integrated into VS 3.0.

I received a couple of emails from some of the new users, one was because his service did not start, and the other was a question on the differences between Free and Pro (which we need to explain better when we have time). Anyway, I just emailed them and asked them how they found out about VS, so hopefully we will know the source very soon! I have to do some onsite stuff, but I will be back a little later.

Nice... can't wait to test the VS 3.0 :)
For the difference between Free vs Pro I think you had to put it on the website or maybe one menu on top so people can easily clicked it...
I usually look at the comparison when product had couple of options regardless I interested on trying it or not.

About the downloading spree, I see you already put majorgeeks link on your site... but when I see it, it doesn't look like an alternative link to my eyes..
So I guess when people go to the download page, they still click on the "download free" button. It will be better if you put it side by side and
just maybe put "download free (main)" and "download free (mirror)" with same color and button. Just a thought

It could be the 2.12 beta still but download a fresh copy here: http://voodooshield.com/download/ You can install over and reboot but I always like doing a clean reinstall. Uninstall reboot and install IMO! Or let it update and let us know how it goes. Also do you know how to Check file hashes? If you still have the old installer download the new one and compare them.

Thank you TH and WildByDesign for the help!

Yeah, WildByDesign, you are very close... you just have to figure out a way to get around that initial block. I am sure there is a way, there is always a way, right? ;).

BTW, the downloads have slowed down a little, which is good. Now we are at a steady, maintainable pace.

FleischmannTV mentioned the following study to me earlier today... I had not heard of it, so thank you FleischmannTV, it is fascinating. So I thought I would post it on here, I think everyone will enjoy it. BTW, the sandbox that VS uses is mentioned on page 11, section 5.1.0 Windows Integrity Mechanisms. Please keep in mind though, that VS denies the process from ever being created in the first place (blocks the process), then runs the blacklist scan, then runs the file in a sandbox if threats are not detected ;).

I mentioned this a while back, but I really wish we could take all of the best ideas and technologies on wilders, and all work together and create the "perfect" security software and call it Wilder's Security ;).

    What are you talking about?

Before you get upset, can you read first?
    =
Do you need futher explanation in order to realize what my comment to ivo "old news" means?
    =
"old news" = ivo, the link that you posted it's already posted by Dan few days ago (Oct 19).

    Simple as that.
