Dont get me wrong great 'Free' firewall, but Agnitum prefers folks to have better protection
which is a good thing ;)

The site looks fresh, but they forgot about the screenshots. Come on guys, that's basic stuff. :)

Asked Agnitum, just to be sure. Their answer:
    All hope is gone.

My guess is that their sales are down, so the free product is not going to help that.
I like the FW, but the AV is poor.

It is one of the better firewalls ......BUT.....it is one of the firewalls that does not start as soon as Windows starts and this means it is not blocking traffic as soon as traffic starts to flow. It has been demonstrated that traffic escapes before Agnitum Firewall has fully started. This was shown by another Wilders member in a thread entitled Firewalls of today not loading their drivers fast enough ?!

More work is needful to build a better firewall. (By the way - this was not the free version tested.)

    Bonjour,

Firewalls now doesn't start before Windows, impossible, no hooks on the kernel (patchguard, UAC).

Outpost is blocking traffic as soon as traffic starts to flow on my computer, no traffic on port 53 outgoing, configure.

After a second I see in the log,
06:25:28 Bloquer OUT UDP 192.168.1.13 56100 192.168.1.1 53 Bloquer les paquets en transit

Nothing else, it is traffic on local network.

    Very good firewall.

    Sorry for my english.

That would be your unfortunate guess ;) and sales are doing great!
AV is one of the best around and documentation shows this, you should load it and just
    enjoy the best firewall around!

well what about mobile broadband users.?
When mobile users turn on the laptop there is no internet traffic at all as in most cases the mobile broadband is the last thing to turn on when the desktop appears so whether outpost free loads before or after windows is irrelevant surely.?

the driver loads very early and before the network stack is activated. the gui, a seperate program loads much later, and the notification tray icon may not show until after startup & user log in. but you are protected well before. some newer systems pre-load hardware drivers from a special partition before the boot media storing the OS is active, but they are not vulnerably active until the OS loads, by which time agnitum's driver is active.

Testing was done by Wilders member Sm3K3R so it is he whom you may wish to contact. No testing was done here. Yes Outpost Firewall is perhaps the best third-party software firewall available and we do not know of a better one although we have not thoroughly tested it. This is used on a non mission-critical computer with no sensitive data on it.

    Edit addition:

So traffic can occur even without the operating system having been loaded.

Just something to keep in mind.

    Best regards

Perhaps it will be tested by other members/ or anyone else to get to the bottom of this dragged on topic.
Maybe Sm3K3R is right, because no one else shows proof otherwise at the moment.
Not saying he is right, but his claim looks accurate.
I would just like to see the facts.
Anybody willing to do the testo_O

I notice when "block all" is enabled in background mode, the "rules wizard" icon shows for about 2 seconds while desktop is loading up.
This I hope is a GUI glitch.

No, ports are closed on the computer (daemons are not enabled while the pc is asleep or hibernating or even powered off), you can disable wake on lan on the computer and UpnP on the router, so hack is not possible.

Outpost Pro is what I've been using on all my systems. Web Filtering is a great option. The Firewall hasn't let me down yet.... I keep it running very "tight". Also, the logs are very detailed and concise.

AV one of the best around?
On Virus Bulletin, it didn't perform very well, to say the least.
I wouldn't use it alone. With MBAM and MBAE it makes a great combo.

You may be referring to the suite that also includes an anti-virus component. Their anti-virus component is indeed not one of the best but their HIPS and Firewall components are very good indeed.

hayc59 - Do say our hellos to Miss Victoria if you would please. Thank you
