I'm liking avira so far (again) the only thing I dislike so far is every few boots or so it comes up with a popup mid-screen asking me to update to the latest version (which I have) I'm guessing it wants me to install that OE stuff again. Anyway to stop that popup? its quite annoying.
Is the OE launcher only in the free version? If I purchase the Pro version would it still be there? thanks
soon it will be, that's why I asked to cancel my 4 year license for the PRO version and got a refund. I only want an AV that does one thing, protect me, and nothing else, no bloat, no launcher, no driver updater, no registry optimizer, no dropbox integration! nothing!
What is so bad about the launcher? I ask this because I am not able to install another trial version to test this.
for one, it doesn't look like you are launching an antivirus, looks like some crapware application. Two, once the launcher is installed, you need two clicks to get to the antivirus main GUI not directly as it is now with any antivirus. Even if you don't install the launcher, it will keep nagging to be installed upon every reboot. Secondly, the launcher is not the worst thing to be honest, what made me switch from Avira is the fact that they now have Dropbox Integration, Driver updater, system optimizer, registry cleaner, etc. a Perfect tool to destroy any PC! Ask someone with 14 years of experience, any registry cleaner if not used very very carefully and if you simply scan and get 200 errors and think that by deleting those registry entries you are doing your PC any good CAN and will destroy your PC. The first time I decided to try one of those Antivirus built in registry cleaners was with BullGuard Internet Security, the moment I cleaned my registry, Microsoft Office stopped working. I learned my lesson the hard way. Avira is no longer an Antivirus, it is similar to TuneUp Utilities, a complete disaster! I don't trust any security company that steers away from the main role = security
I've re-installed Avira Pro several times in the last few weeks because of problems unrelated to Avira, and there is no trace of any OE. If you intend to buy Avira use it first for the 30 days trial, and then may be you can decide... I personally think that any new addition to the Pro version is going to be optional, as Avira is one of the few AVs that has always offered a modular installation (my setup is without the firewall and mail module).
Hi Osaban, here: https://analysis.avira.com/en/submit ...or you can take a shortcut by contacting Stefan Kurtzhals via PM and he'll take care of it
I have submitted many false positives in the past and especially a website that is related to a local movie theatre (cinema) in Dubai: http://uae.voxcinemas.com/ The report came back that it was clean, great! so remove the freakin' site from the web URL filtering block list! nope! no hope! So I report it again, and get a reply again that it's clean! so why on earth is it still blocked? that's how useful Avira's False positive reporting system is!

Negatives!!!!? Avira this year has performed at least as well if not better than Kaspersky in detection, which is often considered arguably the best in recent years, it is light as a feather, and the price is amazingly competitive allowing all your house computers to fit in one license... What are your arguments? OE, which hasn't been implemented yet, and one ridiculous Dubai FP that seems to ruffle your feathers... Yes, I'm an Avira enthusiast in the sense that, like you have often mentioned, it has one damn good stellar detection, and that is what matters most, period.
