I've seen a few rather generous offers. Is there a catch ?

The last time I saw anything like that was years ago, and at the time Avira was basically for free. 6 and 12 months offers.

I got one of their recent 9-month free licenses in a short lived promo - marketing director must have been drunk or something :) no hitches-no problems.

As long as the promo has no association whatsoever with Avangate you'll be fine.

I suggest if after the trial & you want buy (sorry for swearing). Then get a hold of a physical boxed copy, register the serial without any payment info. Got a boxed copy of BDIS sitting here waiting for my 9 month trial to expire.

What is the reason for having a boxed copy rather than buying it online? Is it due to auto renewal if you buy in online?

I'm just curious as I've only ever purchased a boxed copy of an antivirus once, everything else I've purchased online.

The licences are safe but nobody knows if the Bitdefender software itself will destroy your system.

I have held a Bitdefender license every year since 2007 and my system has never been "destroyed". Not even close to being destroyed.

    Correct that is the reason.

Have used promotional licenses of BD and they are safe enough. With the rate that they are hosting the promos you may not feel the need to buy BD. You just have to wait for the next promo, 3 or 6 months :) It is tempting enough to use BD but on my side I just could not let it stand on my system for beyond a week. I could not get along with the black-screen delay and the sluggishness I experienced not to mention my internet went slow. That was with BD IS and BD AV 2014. Can't speak of the 2015 version though.
