Then time to use the license you pay for and enjoying it rather then posting outdated info.

 

Really like Webroot. The FPs were a problem and the quarantine methodology is suspect as it is hard to see what was quarantined when you were out of the room and come back to see the report. Would be helpful to have an easily accessed log where you can reverse WebRoot's decisions when it happens to pick on a good app that it doesn't like (FP). That aside it works well and I look forward to a new release.

 

Hello in your settings to see what's happening always as I like to just uncheck these 2 and click save then you will see all messages!

Well for one Webroot is not using the year anymore and when the next version is ready it will be v8.0.5.xxx PC and for the Mac version v8.0.7.xxx they are doing a different model via a Road Map things they will be doing through out the next year such as improvements and any new additions if any, sorry that's all I can say as I'm under NDA at Webroot. But they do have some great plans on the map and of course no added bloat! I like the plan so I'm sure you will to!

I've just installed the current version, and in my case it is most definitely not light at times. When WSA was doing the scan during installation, it was constantly using around 80% CPU use, which caused the total CPU use for my laptop to be at 100%. Not a good start at all for an antivirus which has a reputation for being extremely light. I did have my laptop set to maximum battery life at the time, but after I switched it back to maximum performance (which was a slow process due to the excessive CPU use), total CPU use stayed at 100%. After the installation had completed, when I ran a manual scan, CPU use was also excessively high, with it briefly reaching close to 80% at times. It was going up and down, but was always reasonably high.

It's not all bad news though. When not running a scan, CPU use is very low. Also, CPU use stayed very low when opening my Downloads folder containing 100s of installers, which is not typical behaviour - typically there is a noticable drop in performance when I have an antivirus installed and open the Downloads folder. I was able to disable web filtering easily (I never want any web content filtered or blocked), and have WSA set to prompt for action when a threat is found rather than handling the threat without prompting (which is why I have not uninstalled WSA just yet). One thing that bugs me, is that when the web shield is disabled, there is a message warning me that some critical shields are disabled. I would really like to be able to get rid of that message, since I refuse to use the web shield in any antivirus.

I am not going to uninstall WSA just yet, and am going to test it some more. But, chances are I will remove it soon due to the high CPU use during scans. I understand that some antiviruses use less CPU use after they have been installed for a while, and maybe this will be the case here. But, I don't think I've ever had an antivirus using excessive CPU installed long enough to confirm this.

To be fair my aging Thinkpad has a fairly slow processor - Intel Core Duo T2300. But, my laptop is really quite fast daily for use without an antivirus installed, and only really struggles when RAM usage get high, due to there only being 3GB of RAM installed as it is only a 32 bit processor.

 

Can you send me a PM? I would like to get some scan logs from your PC to see if there is something going on. I have seen WSA CPU usage be a bit high on older PC's but your are running a Core Duo and not a old P4.

 

What are the diffrence between the Wsa products in the safety?

I just purchased SecureAnywhere™ AntiVirus for PC Gamers yesterday.
I have used basically all the premium security suites over the years. Sometimes I renew them, other times I switch.
I got this for $19.99. Amazing. It includes Antivirus, spyware protection, Firewall, and a tuneup utility.
When running, it has a VERY small footprint which is best for serious gamers.
I used Webroot Spy Sweeper years ago. They make good stuff and have outstanding local support.

Welcome to the family. I also have been using Webroot 10+ years now starting with Spy Sweeper. Enjoy.

 

Just to let WSA users know there is a new Web Filter for Chrome and to get it go into Extensions and Delete the old Extension and go here and install the new one https://chrome.google.com/webstore/...ensi/kjeghcllfecehndceplomkocgfbklffd/details as it solves the continued spinning circles during searches on Google! Also some users might have the new Web Shield installed automatically so disregard the Delete and reinstall part.

After looking more into the Extensions they have all been updated to v1.0.2.42 for all supported browsers. IE, Firefox and Chrome.

Encrypting ransomware is a key term in the title as just ransomware is broad and can include threats that are very different, easy to detect, and don't encrypt files at infection - the key differentiation point that gives these threats the upper hand against AV.

The presentation is going to be on all the encrypting ransomwares we've seen thus far. It will cover in-depth features of each one and how malware authors made improvements as time went on. There is quite a few so it will be a full presentations worth (cryptolocker, dir-crypt, cryptowall, cryptodefense, zero-locker, critroni, synolocker, cryptographic locker). I'll show from start to finish of an infection and what a user will experience and will highlight social engineering tactics along with the methods of payment circumventing money mules. And of course will end with our product and functionality. Journaling capability will be clearly stated in a fashion that highlights its strength, but not in a way that would lead to false assumptions.
