this question has been probably been asked before and i know its NOT in the ax64 thread, where the thread has gotten so big that its difficult to find relevant answers without trawling through loads of posts. my question is does ax64 back up snapshot data if rollback is installed as well as the baseline snapshot. i am interested in ax64 v2.xx but also is relevant to v1
Hi garry AX64 will not capture rollbackrx snapshot data, as far as I am aware, the only way to do this is still via using a disk imaging app that can create a backup of ALL sectors on the rollbackrx protected partition and generally via a COLD image. AX64 should be able to capture the baseline and AX64 does not yet have any manner of COLD style imaging. Only used sectors. Hope that helps! Jim
Hi Gary! As Jim has stated, only a COLD (non-LIVE OS) All Sector (Raw) image of a Rollback RX protected system can contain the necessary RBrx snapshots as well as the proprietary sub-CONSOLE environment needed for successful restoration. Horizon Data Systems is "about to release" a version of their imaging tool, Drive Cloner RX (v6), which is supposed to be able to image not only the used sectors of a protected volume but also the RBrx snapshots as well as its special sub-CONSOLE environment. Having said that, many of us have been waiting, literally, years for that capability since its original announcement of intended development.
Hey folks, Sam here from Horizon DataSys. Good question and answers! As TheRollbackFrog mentioned, we are on the verge of updating Drive Cloner Rx to include the capabilities of capturing RollBack Rx and its subsequent snapshots and subconsole system. In fact, the beta just went live today. If any of you are interested in testing it out send me a message, or shoot me an email at samuel(at)horizondatasys.com. We know it's been a long time coming for this... but we're close! I swear! Cheers!
A loooooooong time coming. I installed DC when I installed RBrx thinking I would be able to get the upgrade free when the upgrade came. That was a few years ago, and I finally dumped it after I dumped RBrx waiting for that upgrade.
Just think of all the people who paid for the "Gold" version which included free updates. They never received any. Oh, and Horizondatasys is ALWAYS on the verge of releasing a new version which is followed by 1 year or more of silence. Also, you if you beta test one of their products, you are out of your mind and don't care about losing your HDD.
I forgot that I got the Gold DC in anticipation of the imminent upgrade. Thanks for opening that wound. LOL
Sorry twl845. I have told HDS on a few occasions that they should refund people like you who paid for something they never received based on false claims form them. Of course they never did that. How about Sam from HDS commenting on that? We all know HDS monitors this forum.
Hey folks, Hmm, I'm sorry to hear about your experiences. That's not cool at all. I understand why it would be frustrating to have upgrades being brought up and then it doesn't come through. Admittedly, I'm fairly new to this company, and from your posts I've read (not just in this thread) there have been some confusing dealings with HDS in the past. Most of which were before my time and I can't completely comment on that. Given that, I don't want to repeat those times. I'm not here to promise anything. I'm just planning on doing my best to give you the most up to speed information I have - if you want it. I don't have a timeline for Drive Cloner Rx being ready for public consumption. The beta is available - that's true. It's compatible with the latest build of RollBack Rx as far as our in-house testing has been done. But as another user mentioned, it is a beta, so install at your own risk! In regards to the gold support issues, it wouldn't be fair for me to comment on the ones before my time. I can say that promises should not be made from us regarding major releases (unless we know for certain), and it's definitely not good for anyone if you are being promised something and then nothing is delivered. The only time I've seen that happen since is when we thought we would have a new version of Drive Cloner Rx ready a couple months ago and were just about ready to roll out the beta, and then some large bugs were found in the code and the developers recanted that and needed more time to press the kinks out. As soon as the bugs were cleaned we announced the beta was available. Once again, I do apologize for the frustrating times you've faced. I know that for many of you the trust with us is shaky. But, if you want, I'm happy to share with you what I can to the best of my ability. Other than that, have a great day! As always you can reach me directly at samuel(at)horizondatasys.com. Cheers! Sam
Sam, Talk is cheap. HDS sold these gold plans and made horrifically inaccurate date estimates for new versions. To say this was before you makes no sense and is a complete cop out. Users have contracts with HDS. You represent that company. It has NOTHING to do with when you were hired. HDS should go back and refund all Gold plan charges to your customers. HDS has developed a well earned bad reputation which will dog them for years. You saying that things are changing mean nothing. Prove it by refunding Gold Plan charges to your customers. Prove it by meeting estimated release dates of new versions. Prove it by responding to user requests within a reasonable amount of time. Prove it by not making inaccurate or exaggerated claims on your websites. Prove it by not releasing software that damages computers.
