Hello! Now I am searching for the best file and registry monitoring tool. My main problem is that at office, I can only access certain websites Requirements: No Malware (Must) Payware or Freeware (Optional) Trial Version, Direct Download from the website (No Softopedia or Downloads.com) (Must) Portable (Must/Optional) No HTML listing as default (Must) Output the list as text file, comma - or tab - delimited File or CSV file (Must) Output the list in MS Access or Excel (Must) Something "similar" to InCtrl5 -xttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/InCtrl5 Cons InCtrl5: Too old, slow for Win Vista, Win 7 and Win 8 A) I still use InCtrl5 under Vista, does InCtrl5 works under Win 7 or Win 8? B) I don't understand why some user suggest uninstallers for this task. can someone please explain me? Cons Regshot Very hard for me to understand. I am looking for a modern, stable, fast and easy to understand changes that are made in the system after a new software is installed and/or run for the first time. (Registry changes and Files changes and other changes if are applicable) What software do you suggest me. that meet the requirements above? Thanks Camelia
If you're using a 64-bit operating system, you shouldn't use most 32-bit file and registry monitoring programs because of The WOW-Effect. Free file system and registry snapshot comparison programs for 64-bit (x64) Windows
Wow, I didn't know nothing about The WOW-Effect, I learned something new today For my project and since I am starting to learn, I was thinking to test only with 32-Bits OS, after reading about the "Effect", now I changed my mind and I will test with 64-bit OS also Reading your Thread Free file system and registry snapshot comparison programs for 64-bit (x64) Windows Your best choice for x64 file snapshot comparison is SysTracer (Payware) Is SysTracer a Computer forensics software? -http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computer_forensics How many point to InCtrl5 in the scale to 5 to 10 in your opinion? Where 5 is the worst and 10 is the best Camelia Oops! I foget to smile I am on the camera
It's a "list differences between two snapshots" type of program. Description is here. There is a free feature-limited trial available here.
InCtrl 5 was replaced by InCtrl X a couple of years ago. I haven't used the new one so I have no opinion on it. http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2398835,00.asp
Since there is no Technical Support for Trial (free) version users, I am ashamed to ask here SysTracer Pros: I love it but... Cons: Only export as PDF or HTML, I can't work "only" with PDF or HTML, printing them is not an option for me. SysTracer will be perfect for me if the program could export into other programs (MS Access, Word or Excel). I know, The results are very large I am not still understanding how SysTracer works, the main problem is I can't Diff the listing outside this program, only If I export them to PDF or HTML My questions: 1.- I would like to have the result list in a database, could it be possible using SysTracer Or a Good program very similar to SysTracer? 2.- How To Diff a PDF with a program such as ExamDiff Pro? 3.- Where I can learn more about attributes? ---A-- -HSA-- -H-A-- I really need help, I am lost... PLEASE! Office Pro 2003, Office Pro 2007, Office Pro 2010 Camelia
@camelia: "I am not still understanding how SysTracer works": You take a snapshot with SysTracer. At some later time, you take another snapshot with SysTracer. Then you use SysTracer's diff feature (or whatever it's called) to see what's changed from one snapshot to the other. Is your boss requiring the results to be exported to Access or Excel? Understanding Windows File Attributes
Hi, >you take another snapshot with SysTracer. Then you use SysTracer's diff feature... Yes I tried thar part awesome!! But if is there something better that SysTracer with the option to export to more formats, better for me Thanks for the link I understood: ---A-- Archive -HSA-- Hidden System Archive -H-A-- Hidden Archive >Is your boss requiring the results to be exported to Access or Excel? I can't lie, is not for my boss, is for a project I have it in mind since several years ago, (Top Secret ) I only can tell that my project is about security It could work or not, but I will never know if I don't try, so yes I require the results to be exported to Access or Excel, that way it will more easier for me to track my progress, I know Visual Basic for applications, so for now Its a good start Please, Please tell me you have another better solution or advice for me Camelia
@camelia: Maybe you could programmatically parse the HTML output of SysTracer and populate Excel or Access. I don't know of any other solutions offhand.
Yup. I was thinking the same, the visual basic code will be a lot of work, but I can do it, I just wanted to avoid the hard work, I will buy SysTracer now Thank you very much MrBrian!!! Camelia
