That would be a certain road to Norton non-enterprise bankruptcy

I contacted a live Norton chat representative and he offered me a 'nice' 20 percent discount on a new license plus my 223 remaining days on my Norton NIS product. So that nice discount will be $70, but they offered me a much better discount of $19.99 earlier this year (May 2014)! It just makes me feel mad and disgusted and not so thrilled with Norton now. I just don't know why they have to mark the price up so high because they will probably mark it down by at least half by Christmas time. Usually, Amazon or Newegg will bring it down even lower than that on some kind of special deal. Super greedy yellow software company!

Can't comment on the EULA, however versions of NIS/N360 since at least 2010 (IIRC) have all included a "new version check" menu item which opened a browser window, and if a new version was available it was offered as a free download/install. I've often accessed this feature when updating customers and it has always been free.

Frys.com has often put Norton products on sale for $0 after rebate (and Symantec rebates have always been reliable). Waiting for the holiday sales is a good bet.

I don't understand why they can't upgrade the current users to the new product if they are so worried about so much product bloat. They even make a point for users to disable the auto-renewal so they won't be still using the old product line when it does expire. So are they worried about the additional server load or more worried they can't make a quick buck until next year for the ones with 200+ days left on their subscription! I am a honest blue-collar worker and I really can't afford to pay more than $50 for antivirus for my windows devices. I wonder if their management would cut their salaries to save a few more dollars from going down the drain!

for those worrying/complaining about price/renewals I would contact norton support and start a chat session,I did,I explained my gripe/concern about price etc and got 50% discount and the time left on current licence added to the one for new install of norton security, that works out only £5 more than I paid for NIS on renewal last year, instead of grumbling about things or assuming things contact them and find out the facts!

Back in the 90's they would send you a boxed released version when you beta tested. Things have really changed. Now they offer a 40 % discount.
They used to also send mice letter openers. Wow times have sure changed.

Wow this will be interesting but from what i understand it's all the same technology just in a single package so i guess protection wise it will be pretty much the same and my expectations arent really that high regarding protection.

It isnt the same technology, Norton 2015 is much better than previous versions in system impact and protection, the problem now is price and no more free upgrade from previous versions:

Please take a look (it is already final):

Based on my quick check of the 2015 documents, it's nowhere near the same technology as 2014. As I noted earlier, 2015 includes features of Symantec Enterprise, namely enhanced Sonar, Aggressive Mode (better heuristics), and a few other things.

runs far lighter on my PC than any of the previous versions of NIS,and that ran very light, not exaggerating when I say its like having no av product installed,I do think it will be based on same technology though, but evolved,I doubt it is totally new with no carry over whatsoever

I believe that. My concerns are: 1. I have not seen any good tests of its effectiveness yet. Any links that aren't against the TOS here would be appreciated. 2. Why is the upgrade thing even an issue? They should be taking care of their loyal customers first. Lost customers don't often come back and I'm sure they have lost a few.

Given they are using the enterprise versions enhanced systems, I would bet money Norton will score higher with this version.

I could use a 40% off code, I need 10 licenses of Norton 2015, and I cannot find a single discount out there. So it's either I wait, or someone here knows where I can find one. Norton is the one company I have no contacts at. :'(

I'm hoping they won't refuse to participate in any tests that will demonstrate that.

Even nicer, I have just been given a Norton Security with Backup 10-user key that is valid for one year for being a Beta tester. That has to be good so thank you Norton. :thumb:

    Nice troll. LOL

Neverthless, I have no qualms about paying for it, but not $140+ for the 10 PC's I need covered. Let's wait for a discount. I'm patient.

I just checked my email and noticed I also got one. Not a bad gift for beta testers. I know Webroot has also done this in the past. I have liked Norton in recent years, but this latest version seems the best yet.

Thanks for the link. Other than the color scheme, it really doesn't look much different than the previous couple of years. The review doesn't make it seem like it is spectacularly better than last year. Good enough but it already was. An ok upgrade but not enough to justify making people buy a new license.

It's vastly different under the hood.

As I pointed out, it includes the 'guts' of the potent enterprise edition (12x). With the boosted Sonar, Aggressive Bloodhound, Improved HTTP heuristics, etc. So really, I think they are justified in wanting people to buy a new license, this is a basically a re-engineered product.

The review didn't really reflect any massively improved results, even if that is the case. I would expect it to be exponentially better for it to be classified as an entirely new product, yet the review mentioned it was outscored by other products. This review looked much like last year's review. I need to see something that convinces me it is something special compared to last year. I haven't seen that yet.

How do you make something that was already lightweight, with detection rates in the high 90s% exponentially better? lol
