What’s the point of having a firewall?

starting to get pretty annoyed. im still stuck with version .570 i have re-downloaded the most current installer from the beta which is listed as .300 i have tried fully uninstalling still get .570 when i install the beta. even tried on a fresh formatted system and still i get .570 i want to use the newest version in the beta but for some reason i can not get it now matter what i try. i have tried multiple times to update and nothing it says im up to date.

btw i posted this over at the new answers thing and checked just now and it was removed. i have no idea why.

.... because for beta versions, you have to use the specific section in Avira BetaCenter, not the Avira Answers:

Thanks. While u r there. I've always chopped & changed my AV (wilders disease) but I'm just about cured. If I commit the family's PCs to say AVIRA 2014 will the 2014 version be less effective than say the 2016 version when released? I dont mean bloatware addons etc just AV - will it do same job?

If I understand correctly, you are asking if a future version of the av will be better than the current version? Well, most likely yes, new detection techniques can be implemented in future versions to make them more effective. However, if you have a 3 year licence, you will be able to use the current licence on the future versions, therefore no worries.

    Hi,
Strange that the whole article is giving the expression that this is a current security issue but tells in the bottom line:

"Gamal has reported the vulnerability to the Avira Security Team on August 21th, the team admitted the flaw and fixed the CSRF bug on their website, but the Secure online backup service “is still vulnerable to hackers until Avira will not offer a offline password layer for decrypting files locally.”"

This means: No risk since that issue was reported and fixed on the same day, Avira Secure Backup use the same login. As already discussed in this thread some time ago, Secure Backup is not available anymore on our website.

Store of encrypted files within cloud based storage is possible with additional free tools. In case that somebody got access to any online storage, the encrypted files will be useless to the attacker.

okay so i finally got it to update to 300. restoring a image did not work. i had to actually format the system and start fresh with windows. the image i was restoring was of a brand new fresh install with no av or any other programs other than office 2013. so not sure why the fresh install from today worked when the image of a clean windows install would not update. they suggested adding lines to the host file but for me that did not work.

also as posted over at the beta forum this is a article (in german i used google translate to read it) about the launcher. http://www.3dcenter.org/blog/leonidas/avira-nervt-mal-wieder

if what i have been told is for sure implemented i think most people will be okay with how they are setting up the new launcher and it will not be such a big deal. i dont want to post my discussions but its positive for sure. and the info comes from as high as one can get.

For the record, I bought 3 yrs of AIS Got Avira AV pro only. Lic. for 6 years (not 3) name on Lic ain't mine. Google mocks my hope of lasting the distance. But so far so good.

I see. I must have gotten mixed up on one of zfactor's posts about beta release. Not than any PC is in the house is having any issues now, all working well.

As a side note, I've been testing today with 3DMark and PCMark 8 the differences between a baseline setup, Avira, and Webroot. I won't post results as a comparison, but I think it is within the rules to say that after several tests between baseline and having Avira installed and running, I wasn't able to ascertain any difference score was. The differences were back and forth and within a few percentage points.

    So, I was right.
BSOD came from MS update, not from Avira.

I'm not sure. I uninstalled Avira and didn't have issues on any of the other PC's but that one. I rolled back the updates, used Webroot for a few days on that PC, no issues, so I uninstalled webroot and reinstalled Avira. No issues. What is funny is that the other two PC were BSOD within a few seconds of booting up until I uninstalled Avira in safe mode. Then they worked fine. I still rolled back the updates and reinstalled Avira, now they work fine with Avira installed once again. The updates were definitely the cause of the problem, but Avira was heightening the BSOD issue on two of the PC's, although I wouldn't place the blame for the BSOD on Avira.
