is there a Ublock for firefox ? i search the forum and the web didnt found one although i remember there was a beta....
I have been testing uBlock and I must say, I am very impressed. I think this is way better than AdBlock Plus, except for one thing. I would definitely love to see uBlock support other browsers, like Firefox for instance. Other than that, It is among the best. Excellent job gorhill
Custom blocks picking the element from the page works no where near as well as either Adblock Plus or Adguard which is the only fault I can find with this.
Can you be more specific? What part of the element picker is specifically is "nowhere near" Adblock Plus? It's difficult for me to understand what needs to be improved with vague statements. Specifically, concerning the interaction/visual, my opinion is that uBlock is modern, ABP is archaic, I wouldn't be surprised to see them moving toward a similar implementation (SVG).
http://discussions.tomtom.com/t5/TomTom-Navigation-app-for/Service-purchase-problems/td-p/849911 Scroll down till you see the pretentious motorcycle avatar and try deleting it as an ad. It looks like you can delete it yet his thousands of other posts still remain with the pretentious avatar. I can do this with adblock plus though it is one of the more difficult to get right. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. I use ublock not adguard plus I was just noting that from my fairly non technical standpoint they seem to implement that one single thing better. I also hate small animated gifs and can't block those out either but I have killed the animation through a Gif Jammer ext. Right now I have ublock working with privacy badger and the combo is very lightweight and effective.
µBlock is amazing, I am impressed by its speed and ad removal performance, top notch software My only "problem" is that µBlock doesnt filter pages when I open tabs from last session (Adblock, Adguard, Adblock Plus does)
This discussion should apply here. gorhill is thinking about delaying the update of the filterlists in order to speed up launching µBlock at browser start.
I finally got these two filters, but admittedly I had to manually edit with the first one, and for the second one I had to use the browser dev tools, as it was a background image: ||discussions.tomtom.com/*/image-id/1777i04C516EABA30A22F/ ||discussions.tomtom.com/*/image-id/1781iF8CA143F01DE67E6/ Those above are net request filters, so the image won't even download. I tried with ABP, but I didn't see it faring much better. When you edit the suggested selectors, uBlock will show you what would happen if you were to create a filter out of it, by highlighting the affected parts on the page (up to a point). I did not try with AdBlock though, but I know AdBlock modifies the page real time with a slider. For uBlock I prefer to highlight what will change on the page (I don't want to mess with the DOM), but still I could improve by adding a slider widget for users who do not know how to deal with CSS selectors.
Just noticed this thread and extension. A huge thank you to Ray for creating uBlock and HTTP Switchboard. You do some spectacular work.
Hello, I have just recently started using both uBlock and HTTPSB. I just want to be sure that I have them set up the recommended way. See the attached screenshot for my setings. I think I have it correct but was not positive where to put the Spam404 list. Since it seems to be an Adblock+ filter list, that is where I have placed it. I also did uncheck both of the "Parse and enforce the Adblock+" options in the HTTPSB settings also. Those are the filters I wish to use and I just want to be positive that I placed them in the proper extension for best results/efficiency. Thanks for your help in advance...
v0.6 Released, this will mitigate the filtering issue till certain extant. You may test and see how it works for you. And report if you see any issue still
I can confirm that there is less ads in that situation, but still not perfect, anyway it is a lot better now.
Not sure if this the right process to point this out, but I was over convert a sound file and this type of pop up showed up, it might be hard to see the link in the grey bar below, I apologize. Again just thought you might like to know which ones slip through the cracks.
It's not a popup, it's an iframe in the page. It also occurs with ABP, so it is an EasyList miss, and this needs to be reported to EasyList crew. I don't maintain filter lists (except to un-break what hosts files break, as long term I wish to enable them out of the box). Given uBlock's high coverage of ABP filter syntax, when such miss occurs, it should be assumed first this is a filter lists problem, and testing with ABP with similar filter lists will confirm whether it is uBlock's fault or not. Edit: This filter works on my side: "||440698e7.info^". But I wish you report to EasyList crew, it would become too much of a burden if I set myself as the funnel through which missing filters are reported to EasyList crew.
uBlock is great. I tried Adguard, but switched to uBlock as it seems faster, and doesn't offer any weight to the overall system. Great job. Can I support you in some way?
Thanks for the thought, but I don't really need anything. If you want to contribute, there is always more translation work to be done (if your language is not available yet), but don't feel obligated, I want people contribute because they want, not because they feel they owe to the project.
Does anyone know the web page to test a browser with various tracking/analytics? I recall a page from last year where it checked your browser/addon ability to block trackers. It basically was a list of all of the common ones, and either they were blocked or not, but it told you which were blocked. I cannot find the link for it. It was pretty straight forward, visit the site, check the results.
