What Do You Think of Softpedia's New Web Design?

In case you haven't noticed yet Softpedia's website just had been redesigned it seems. So, what do you think of it?

I personally feel it is annoying. I can't even trigger the downloads without enabling javascript now. Previously I've never needed to allow javascript to download software from there.

Well it looks "modernized". Haven't really played around with it though.

It's not just them - many sites have new redesigned pages and not all are necessarily welcome. Unless your plugging SoftPedia ;)

I just visited Softpedia as I do daily, before seeing this thread. I really hate the new design. I thought the old design was fine and needed absolutely no changes.

I also don't like the changes at download.com, but at least in my opinion the new design in much better than Softpedia's new design.

A site designed and optimized for mobile use while offering Windows downloads? Hmm. That's not design and not eye candy, that 'tiles' are extremely confusing and not good for such a website. That type of 'masonry' design from what I can see around, it is more oriented to photographers portfolios, web designers showcases and NOT for a download site. Good luck with that.

I thought I was on National Geographic with so many pictures... I wonder if my followed software list will appear on the watchlist or will I have to subscribe again to every piece of software.

The old design was more functional (i.e. easier to navigate)...

Indeed, now it looks like any other junk webpage out there. 8 was a fail and yet everyone wants its product or webpage to look like it. Well they succeeded. :gack:
Thanks for the tip, it looks really better. Somehow Softpedia's 100% Clean logo does not feel right, it is like a junk webpage claiming, that the product is junk free.

There have been a lot of sites using that template lately. I don't care for it. Too much wasted space, too much work to find something useful.

Well this just sux. Looks like another one bites the dust. Now I have to enable "Allow pages to use their own fonts" in Firefox for the page to display properly. I guess the saying "They will always keep fixing it til it's broke" really is true.

It will sure take some getting used to after using the old design for so long.

I have been checking Softpedia daily for several years. I was shocked at the new design. I find it inconvenient and confusing, Confucious say; "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Looks like MSN or something. Too many large graphics that are not needed. They are a hindrance to quickly viewing content. Need to cover to much space to find something. It does look more "modern" which in itself does not mean it's better.

Horrible, confusing, hard to navigate, phone flavoured. It makes me lose confidence when this happens. The trouble is these sites are following the style of an company who are insistant on foisting their 'vision' onto us even when we tell them clearly that is not what we want. I'll do the same here as I've done with that operating system, I just won't use it. They all need to get their priorities right. If they won't listen, then we wont engage.

MajorGeeks doesn't have many things that I need sadly.
