They don't really care who you share your data/posts with, because if you posted it, they will still have access to it.

I just don't see any willful intention to respect users' privacy. The same can also be applied to all who suddenly declared themselves to respect privacy to the whole world in glorious manners in the span of 2013-now. And to be honest, social media needs a form of moderation. I can't stand these kids making fun of unfortunate tragedies anymore! >=V

I use mobile Facebook most of the time. I'm at my desktop now so logged in. Did not get Privacy Checkup notice, but noted in your (siljaline) link it would be appearing under Privacy Shortcuts. It's already there in my account. So I tried it. Fair simple why to check the options. I never had a problem with checking before and there were no surprises, everything is set as expected and I have set them up.

Still need to check it out, but it´s a shame that it took so long to launch this? FB´s privacy options have always been crappy.
Privacy control at Facebook has always been there but they're too granular. Most know little how to use and employ them. This new tool enables basic privacy protections but does nothing from protecting you from web bugs, trans pixels gifs and the like. This isn't to say that folks that use Facebook should not run this tool and review your privacy settings often - if unsure ask someone that's an expert in social networking.
@ siljaline Might be just me, but I think 2 years ago they already tried to "improve" privacy control, but IMO it was still crappy, with that I mean: not easy to figure out. Almost makes you wonder if they are doing it on purpose. Either that or they are complete idiots.
Facebook knows exactly what they're doing by keeping users in the dark by forever changing settings and keeping them as confusing as they always have been. The Privacy Checkup tool is a good reminder to learn privacy basics with your account and review them often - at the risk of sounding like a broken record. They're not idiots - they're capitalizing on the fact that less and less folks are concerned or care to take the time to review privacy and security on sites like Facebook and others.
If facebook was serious about letting people rule their privacy they would let you rule it already. The tools you get to control the privacy isn't easy to use (its designed to be hard to manage and make it easy to miss things, on purpose I bet).
Many that use Facebook manage with the overly complex rules just the same. Social networking and microblogging are not for everyone. Prepare for an onslaught of privacy headaches.
