I just manually checked the windows updater and there are 10 updates ready to be installed. I guess they are the Sept. updates. Has anyone else taken the plunge yet? I think I'm going to hold back this time for awhile. LOL.:doubt:

the clean disk doesn't let me clean updates , run as admistrator , w7 sp1 64

w8.1 pro 64bit download an update about 180mb , and the clean disk detects the update and can clean only 80mb

The usual: "Install updates automatically (recommended)"

The 13 updates from Sept. Patch Tuesday which mentioned in post #154, installed (as soon as they were available at Sept 9, 10 a.m. Pacific time) after a manual "Check for updates".

Well this is interesting, isn't it? Those who got burned the last time will wait. Those who survived but are more cautious will also wait. Those who no longer trust MS to get it right will not install at all. So that leaves the brave and the uninformed. What kind of feedback can we expect from this?

Ok. I have a good backup from a few days ago. I will install the latest updates and if I have any problems I will just run the macrium backup. Will post back here whether successful or not. Note that system is Windows 7 64bit. Wish me luck. :shifty:

Really? Have you ever heard the word "prepared" ?

And what about those who want to have their systems patched asap?

Just installed the windows updates. KB2982378 (important)."KB2977728,KB2978092,KB2985461" (3 listed as recommended), software removal tool KB890830 (important) along with "3 security net framework updates", for a total of 8. Just ran the manual updater and all is well with the notice, "Windows is up to date".

I installed them on my Vista x86 laptop (the one I'm replacing with a Macbook ;)) and all seems well. But I will wait a few days/weeks before installing them on my Win 7 x64 desktop as it is my main computer and I'll be quite distressed when Microbork finally tank that.

Not quite following you there. Do you mean CCleaner or Disk Cleaner? You can uninstall windows updates by going to Control Panel/Programs/Programs and Features/ then click on "view installed updates" Pick the ones that you want to update. Now to see what the dates are for them Check your Windows Update history which will give you dates when installed.

I'm set to "never check" and always do manual checks for Patch Tuesday plus any off-cycle updates I've heard of. This month's list was 10 items (I don't have Office or Silverlight, and don't bother with the MRT).

One interesting thing this month ... I got that same "can't check" error message at the very end of the scan. However, when I clicked the "try again" button it only took a couple of seconds to get the list of available updates.

You can manually delete those files.

    %windir%\SoftwareDistribution\Download

@mantra This is what I do after a windows update. I run CCleaner which I included, "Options\include\C:Windows/Software DistributionDownload\all files\include files and subfolders". After that I run Windows Disk Cleaner. Or....you can go to "SoftwareDistribution\Download" and manually delete files as Lucius has posted above. I am not suggesting that you do this, I am just stating this is what I do and works for me.
