but even with avast you shouldnt have to disable the ads manually at all in the paid versions imo. they just should not be there.

A new icon appeared yesterday: AVG Driver Update! € 30 for 1 year Driver Update from our partner slimware.

Very nice, AVG seem to copy Avast with all their idiotic cleaners and updaters.

It seems to update at least 3-4 times a day, that's fine for a free version. :thumb: I think it's one of the last free AV without constant ad pop ups ...

It's not without ads but without ad pop ups. :D With Avast or Panda you get idiotic pop ups every day, with AVG you only get it once after install.

To make it worse slimdrivers is free.Only difference is no automation and that you download each driver manually rather than as a batch like driverupdate.

These driver utilities are all junk, because they either don't find the driver you need when you really need it (some Unknown device and you can't figure out which one), but when it detects stuff, it installs all sorts of weird beta versions and versions that don't really work as they should.

Just stick with Google and manufacturer pages.

Driver updater like Iobit driver updater 2 Beta does a exellent job. tested it on 3 pcs with over 50 outdated drivers. not even 1 single false installed driver.

I was wondering how often does avg free 2014 update automatically? I googled and couldn't find a thing.

24 hour update cycle was the last I knew although you may be able to schedule more?

That's better if it's true. 24 hour update cycles were really rubbish. I just wish AVG would put a bit more effort into detection and less into their junkware. They could be top performers.

    Hi

Anyone testing AVG can confirm whether you still have to disable self protection in order to be able to use system restore.

    Thanks

They aren't bad detection wise and as far as I know they aren't slipping either. Status quo on that end I guess.

imo after testing this for the extent of the beta so far they could have done so much more for the 2015 version. really i dont see any changes. i ran both 2014 and 2015 and i had zero difference in detection between them.

Updating is now enforced to 12 hour cycles for FREE version. Other than that i kinda like it.
