As by title. I use Opera 12.17 ( waiting for bookmarks in newier version ): suddently yesterday Google search images stopped to work: in his page I don't see the camera icon to click to upload an image. With Internet Explorer ( sigh... ) all regular, Google works.

On an older WIN XP set I usually use Opera for browsing.

Since yesterday/today (?) Google has reverted to an older style (format). A MUCH older style.
I haven't been able to find a solution (yet), of two suggestions I found one simply didn't work and one was not supported by my Opera version. Updating from 12.15 but 12.17 didn't work either.

Anyone who has a solution ? The problem isn't just the look, but also the options/search results. I have a similar isue in IE 7 but I had given up on that ages ago.

According to someone who is a Google employee (?) this has been done on purpose.

Okay I see what you mean now. I use Opera 12.16 on XP and can see this now....very annoying indeed.

Been trying DuckDuckgo for a few days on XP so didn't really notice notice.

I have found a solution that works for now on Opera 12.17:

    opera:config > user prefs
copy 'Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:31.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/31.0' to the custom user agent

Thank you ! The workaround works. Not so easy to find the path, there are some ways, see here: http://browserfame.com/723/spoof-user-agent-string-opera-12-wahoo

The fact is that such similar things are going to happen more often with outdated browsers. Especially old Opera due to Presto engine.

I just tried an image search in Presto Opera with no work around and it works but it is old style and clicking on an image just takes you to the webpage it is on. Doesn't really bother me, if anything, the old style is easier to navigate.

    @ MisterB

Same over here, I actually like the old style, so I disabled scripting on Google.com, but yes it may have something to do with the Presto engine, let´s hope that most sites will continue to function normally in older versions of Opera. :)

    It's extremely annoying and arrogant.

The 'newer' versions of Opera are not just upgrades.

Yes, I agree but one needs to see it mainly from the marketing point of view. As said in the article, the most plagued were users of Presto Opera and Safari (btw, abandoned browsers). Google perfectly knew which browsers should be the target of this "trouble". This step divides those users to two groups. The first reluctantly accepts this or seeks a solution because they don't want to move on. The second and I dare to say it's majority looks for options. It's worth noting now that if somebody used old Opera or Safari, he (she) won't be switching to Internet Explorer. For those users Chrome or its derivatives is the most viable option what Google had expected.

And Chrome/Chromium or any browser that uses that engine is one that I won't use !

Firefox just isn't for me, IE is integrated into the OS and has some privacy and security issues. That doesn't leave many alternatives. Well, there are many but most are just a 'skin' on Gecko or IE.

I think it's fair to call it abuse of Google's power as a company. It serves noone but Google.

I actually like the return to the old interface. It is more convenient than the newer one which buries options in a javascript menue. If anything, they've given me an option to choose what version of Google I can use based on browser. More reason to keep using Presto Opera. It is such a superior power browser compared to the chromium version that those of us who use it and know how to use it are not going to abandon it anytime soon, supported or not.

Frankly, I don't advocate Google but Google is not alone. Look at Facebook and others. You hit the nail on the head, if you don't want to follow the masses you have got very limited alternatives. Sigh.

Yes, Google shouldn´t be breaking websites just to lure people into using crappy Chrome. :thumbd:

LOL, for me it isn´t a bad move either, I hope that they will soon also offer the "standard HTML" Gmail mode to older browsers. Did you try the advanced versions of GMail and Yahoo Mail, which amateurs build that? It´s sluggish as hell even on new machines. Of course those overpaid geniuses at Google forgot to add an "select all messages" option, so I do have to delete all my SPAM messages one by one. :D

I'm not sure. They don't want to support older browsers. It would be against their policy to prioritize new browsers.

Don't you have the following check box?

I meant it in a sarcastic kind of way, the "old style" Gmail is actually better than the new one which is sluggish because of misuse of scripting (probably AJAX). And no, you don´t have the checkbox inside the old style Gmail, they were too stupid to think of this. :)

    Hmmm, that's indeed stupid.
