I recently upgraded from Debian 7 to 8. Now every time I try to do update whether in Synaptics or Terminal I get the following

I'd guess Debian 8 needs different repositories.

Strangely enough, I had the same thing happen to me with Debian 7 for no apparent reason that I could figure out. I hadn't upgraded to 8 or anything, just routine 7. Out of nowhere, it all of a sudden started doing that. After a few attempts at restoring a good image, with the same results, I finally gave up and moved on to something else other than Debian. This was several months ago, btw.

I never had this is 7. Only after upgrade to 8. It suppose to be a simple name change. Lol I guess not. It would be nice if I could fix this instead of reinstalling the entire system again.

Has the original poster tried updating from a different PPA provider.?..not too certain if this would help but may be worth a shot.

Debian Jessie is testing and has no proposed-updates or updates, its correct that those repos are not found. When Jessie moves from stable to testing, those repos may be useful again, I would personally comment them out for now.

Okay so what do I exactly have to do to fix this problem?

I'm pretty sure you have to edit your sources file and comment out those sources that you don't want it to check. Here is some info:

I want it to check for all jessie updates. Just not sure what to change. The link shows source list for wheezie.

Ok, yeah, I'm not sure.. I found this link (below) relating to Debian testing. It seems to have some answers for you. Otherwise maybe NGRhodes knows...

I switched from wheezy to jessie the other day, and "she" has been quite stable and error free in terms of updating. Currently I boot into kernel 3.14-2-amd64. My /etc/apt/sources.list file is as follows:

    # jessie-contrib & non-free

deb http://http.debian.net/debian/ jessie main contrib non-free
    deb-src http://http.debian.net/debian/ jessie main contrib non-free

    # jessie-updates

    deb http://security.debian.org/debian-security jessie/updates main
    deb-src http://security.debian.org/debian-security jessie/updates main

That is what I used when I tried Jessie out.

    Hello NGRhodes,

    1. In your post #6, you meant when Jessie moves from Testing to Stable?

    2. I got a bunch of updates last night and this morning, without problems.

Yes, from Testing, well spotted !

The debian source list generator is not generating error free list. I still got problems with updating unofficial deb multimedia repos.

    But these worked. Thank you!
