In softpedia review, it is mentioned that realtime protection doesn't work at all on windows 8.1 64 bit. Indeed, I experience exactly the same issue on my machine. Does anybody else have this issue?
I stopped using Baidu quite a few months ago for 2 reasons. Firstly, even though it is very light, there was a noticeable slow down in my computer when it was installed. Secondly, they started filling it out with repair utilities/ network monitors and other bloat. All I wanted was an antivirus ! I see in this version, although it looks impressive, the bloat is getting bigger. IMHO they are going the wrong way doing this, they should concentrate on developing a light AV with improved detection.
From Baidu official site: Ok, Baidu was very good in AV-C Performace test. What about the Real-World Protection Test? > Real-World Protection Test: http://chart.av-comparatives.org/chart1.php?chart=chart2&year=2014&month=7&sort=1&zoom=3
I used to like this AV but it's a shame they are now including all sorts of different and unneeded utilities, which slow down peoples machines. Looking on their Forum it appears they have been listening to quite a few people who have been requesting the inclusion of all this stuff. There were also requests to include a firewall and sandbox.
Not "was", "is": http://malwaretips.com/blogs/remove-hao123-virus/ http://malwaretips.com/threads/need-help-in-removing-hao123-com-homepage.31585/ Just take a quick look at Hao123, which belongs to Baidu: http://en.hao123.com/about.html#about
Hi Jaspion, Weren't you a mod on the Baidu forums some time ago ? and if I remember rightly quite a fan of Baidu AV. I gave up with Baidu AV for the reasons given in post 878 above - and nothing to do with trust issues or adware/malware. But sometimes I still use their Chrome browser clone 'Spark' and I have to say I have never had any probs with adware/malware or suchlike from Baidu. Hi amarildojr, The trust issues with Baidu and other Chinese software developers (KIngsoft, Qihoo etc) has been dissected and discussed many times here at Wilders, and I don't want to start the process all over again. In the end it comes down to the individual users preferences, either you go with it - or you don't.
Baidu Antivirus offers (after previously downloading without asking) to install PC Faster when it updates itself. It is preselected so if you are not careful, you'll get it whether you like it or not. PC Faster displays ads, and recommends "updates" that are actually brand new programs such as instant messengers and P2P programs. Not to mention that Baidu spreads itself with the same tactics that malware uses, in other words, by tricking users. So I reckoned some interesting characteristics, and got involved very briefly with the forum, but I am not a fan of the antivirus nor especially of their business practices.
@Jaspion, after reading your last two posts I can only ask myself "WHAT THE F". I was going to mention Hao123 but I didn't know it belongs to Baidu. Now all that is left is to know whether or not iobit makes business with Baidu. I'm very curious to know how Baidu got tested in av-comparatives... ($$$$?). Let's see if av-comparatives has some influence on Wilders If I get banned or have this post delete, we might have a clue. I don't see why anyone would use such product.
Hi Jaspion, When I stopped using their AV some 7-8 months ago, the problems you mention re 'hidden' PC faster downloads weren't there so it most definitely looks like they have indeed recently changed their practises regarding this. I wouldn't have gone back to using it anyway but having read your post regarding what they are doing now just reinforces that. Baidu AV wasn't great, but it was a mediocre AV and fine while I had it, but I, ( and by the sounds of it you too) have moved on since then. Best wishes
It would seem that the update problem is fixed. In the past, on several computers, PC Faster was incorrectly thinking I had P2P software installed (I forget which one), and offered an update for it. However, that seems to be fixed now.
I can't recall seeing any. But, at the moment while I install it on other people's PCs to help keep them running smoothly, I don't have PC Faster installed on the two laptops I use every week. So, I'm not using it much at all currently. I like the program a lot, but since I don't have too much software installed on either laptop and they are both running well, I simply have no need for it.
Yep. I tried it out for about 40 minutes before uninstalling. Then did a threat scan with Malwarebytes and found the PUP called CrossRider.
I have Baidu installed, and never seen this CrossRider you talk about.. Not even Malwarebytes find it.. So it might be from somewhere else. Its not from Baidu.
