I'm getting a persistent MsiInstaller 1015 warning at restart (Failed to connect to server. Error: 0x800401F0) after updating to 4.1.45.1. Tried over-the-top, uninstall-and-reinstall, system restore on and off. Same warning. Windows 8.1.1 x64.

    Any guidance?

    Thanks

@nick s This appears to be related to update checks on reboot. It's using the MsiInstaller when the service starts. Annoying perhaps but I don't see it as anything to worry about. You might want to tweak some firewall rules to let it do its thing if you have a strict setup though.

That was the plan. Let me remind the keeper of the coupons about that.

Did AppGuard successfully install? Take a look at this KB and see if it helps: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc735600(v=ws.10).aspx

I bought a used computer. On first run I bought & installed AppGuard. Like a dummy, I did NOT turn-off Windows automatic update. When I tried a reboot later on, the computer wouldn't boot to Windows. Instead it hung while trying to make a series of about 15 Windows updates. After several hours I could see it was totally hung. I didn't want to go thru the Safe Boot etc with a new/used computer, so I returned it for refund. Appguard is still installed on it.

I have ordered another new/used computer & want to put AppGuard thereon.

QUESTION: Even though I was unable to uninstall AppGuard from the returned computer, can I somehow use that same AppGuard license on the replacement computer when it arrives? If so, how?

I wonder if booting to safe mode might have worked for you?

On another note, I'm trialing (30 days) in a Win 7x64 vm. No matter what I do, I can't completely exclude Process Explorer from being guarded. Even allowing UnGuarded userspace launches and adding procexp.exe and procexpx64 to Guarded apps with options all off AppGuard is still preventing it from writing to a registry and Windows system directory. Mind you, it does not seem to break anything. I could be missing something so maybe my oversight. It would be really nice to include a right-click option from the Activity Report window to allow one to exclude blocked events for selected processes.

Have you tried running it from one of the Program Files folder?

It depends on when you purchased your license. If it was for version 3.5, you will need a new license. If it is for version 4.0, it may work. You will get 30 days for free. In the meantime if your current license doesn't work, send the information to AppGuard@BlueRidge.com and our customer support work with you on your license options.

If Process Explorer is running from your user-space, then you need to exclude both procexp.exe and procexpx64.exe from user-space protection (don't add to the Guard List). Adding them to the Guard List will cause AppGuard to Guard them.

Barb, just want to clarify if I am using Appguard correctly. Attached is a screenshot of my guarded apps, is there anything in there that should be removed? Burnaware is for burning discs and Potplayer is a media player. Also, should I add any of these applications to guarded apps, Ccleaner, Nitro reader (a pdf reader), Geek Uninstaller, any Sysinternal tools? Thanks.

Thanks syrinx. You're correct and turning off periodic update checks eliminates the warning. No firewall involved. Just Sandboxie and AppGuard these days.

The install seems successful. Unregistering/registering msiexec in both normal and safe modes did not help. What finally eliminated the warning was turning off periodic update checks.

I'm sure Barb is going to tell you to add Nitro Reader, but if you would like to wait for her response then that's cool as well.

Remove Burnaware from this list and add Nitro reader with MemWrite/Read protection.

BlueRidge (via Barb_C) answered my email within a few hours. Problem solved!!

This is the the kind of support we all hope for when buying software, but seldom receive. Hats off to BlueRidge -- great software, great support. :thumb:
