Simple Run Blocker: free anti-executable and drive hider/locker

I tried this briefly, and it worked fine. You can use either blacklist mode or whitelist mode. The program seems to use some Windows built-in feature to do the blocking, but I'm not sure what exactly. I tried whitelist mode with nothing whitelisted, and then rebooted, and the system booted fine, but any programs I tried to launch (except Simple Run Blocker) were blocked.

Use with caution, because it may be possible to lock yourself out of your system.

 

My guess is it uses ACL permissions.

Aah, this looks good. Does the app filtering only work on EXE (DLL, BAT, etc are not affected)?

 

Not sure. Sorry, can't check right now because I turned the virtual machine off already.

 

Some reviews say it uses Software Restriction Policies, but I'm not sure because the "block" error message is different than Software Restriction Policies, and also it seems the Software Restriction Policies registry entries were not used.

 

they have another tool " AskAdmin" it make blacklist exe and i think that use windows srp registry

 

Any different to using NVT free?

Its aimed at parents or sysadmins rather than desktop security although of course the two overlap.
Looked at the askadmin but it says its shareware while the other is freeware.

I believe that Simple Run Blocker's whitelist/blacklist allows only individual programs, not paths.
