    Did anybody else noticed that AVIRA has bad detection & protection against PUPs?

    (Conduit..searchprotect etc..)

    It would be nice if AV-Comparatives makes a test against PUP-s detection & removal.

    Avira isnt that great vs pups. eset and emsisoft are the best one vs pups, specialy eset is strong against pups. i have seen much avira machines with pups, toolbars and other crapware.

    seems to catch them fine for me most of the time. sure it may not catch them all but it does. did you make sure to check the applications under what it detects? if not go to the real time tab then configuration and then to general and make sure to check applications. it is for sure not as good as eset though.

    AV-Comparative did conduct tests for PUAs/PUPs in the past. But they've dropped it now. I don't know the reason of why they dropped it.

    I ve sent lots of known PUPs to Avira and "clean" or "known clen" is not a rare response.I 100% agree that ESET is one of the bests in this area.

    Yep, I also wonder why they stopped, that test is more relevant now than ever before. :D

    Yes, but that shouldn't stop them :D

    And 4 years has past since then and the PUA situation is more serious now so maybe they should reconsider :doubt:

    Is it the case that PUPs aren't actually illegal software and that AV companies might be worried about facing lawsuits if they detect/block them?

    Amazing to notice that most companies are low at blocking PUPs while almost ALL topics on famous desinfection forum are about PUPs...

    Yes and many of them can be simply removed from the OS "uninstall a program" without much problems.

    Thanks. I should've checked their last PUA test PDF. :oops:

    @Wellies
    PUPs are (pseudo) legal because they provide a ToS/agreement/privacy policy in the installation procedure. With that the users are considered as aware of the additional/optional components and their behaviours. They are mostly considered as greyware in the software realm.

    @fax
    Yeah, after they've collected your complete system specifications and stored it in their database lol.

    And yet many people doesn't bother or don't know how to do that wich is why they can be a pain in the bum and should not enter the system in the first place ;)

    ESET detected Avira's asktoolbar and Avira (of course) don't. I like Avira but ESET is the strongest against PUPs.

    Yup, while Avira's good at detecting game hacking programs, Eset must be strong against all kinds of PUPs/vaguely-malicious stuff.

    May I remind people that MBAM has an excellent detection of PUPs and you can use it alongside Avira, so you don't have to change to another AV. That's what I did in the past.

    And yes, you shouldn't expect less from an Avira (conditional) fanboy like me. :cool:
