    Hi:)

The little monitor-looking tray icon indicating whether you have a working internet connection has disappeared from my tray and customize icon menu. Shortly before I noticed this I had what appeared to be a very brief loss of connectivity. Wanting to make sure it was not my browser I looked for the icon which in cases of loss of internet connectivity would have an x in a small red circle on it, but it was not there.

My internet is fine now but the icon remains missing. I have done several restarts but it remains lost.

Using Windows 8. Any suggestions on how to get the icon back?

    Hello hawki,

When you are on your customize notification area icon screen, click on "Turn system icons on or off" and be sure "Network" is set to "On"... Hope this helps...

That's part of the problem puff. Network no longer appears on my customize page.

I recently installed the latest update of System Mechanic. It disabled the ability to show a few icons in my tray, but they still all appeared in my customize menu. A reinstall of one of them, Logitech Gaming Software Settings Page, fixed one problem.

The new SM appears to be a highly intrusive version. It reminds me of the OLD Norton programs that in many ways appeared to take over certain parts your control of certain processes on your PC. It prevents Process Lasso from auto starting and showing it's icon. SM now has a a similar process load balancer in its program now. Whats weird, is if I start Process Lasso manually it integrates with the SM version and when you right click on the Process Lasso icon to get it's menu and hover over the type of load balancing method it is using, typically "Balanced Mode" a new menu opens to the left showing the choice of modes available through the SM program. This is the buggiest release of SM I have seen. Very buggy release of new SM. For over a year I had been using its advanced defragger that has a unique mode of placing folders. So far, only a few days now, that SM advanced defragger has crashed and shut down my PC on every use of it.

I've had to contact Iolo Support so many times now I have nearly developed a personal relationship with them. ~ Snipped as per TOS ~ Let them do their own quality testing.

    Hello hawki,

I am glad you found a substitute but sorry to hear SM has been causing you issues. I regret I could not help more as the only reason I know of a non-appearing system icon (Network in your case) in the system tray and also not appearing in the customize screen is that it has been turned off (as shown in my second screenshot above). Sorry to not have been of more help but I hope your substitute works for you at least until maybe you solve your issue...

    Hi puff:)

My bad. Didn't look at your right hand screen-shot :-(

Didn't realize it but at the very bottom of the Customize page is a blue click-on that reads: "turn system icons on or off." Did that. Network Icon was one of them and had been switched off for some reason. Switched it on and I am fine again:)

    Thanks for helping :)

USA still the best. But barely.

I'd advise anyone to get rid of System Mechanic.
SM: Imo & Ime is one of the worst pieces of software ever written. I hope anyone who uses this has a recent image to restore from.

I lot of peeps on this board and others share that view, but I have had it on my PC for years. I buy it at Target for 19.95 USD. It does have some useful functions (most of which I know can be performed well, if not better, by a collection of free software). Most Recently I keep it for the defragger called Program Accelerator. This claims to defrag and places folders that are usually used together next to one another. It describes other defraggers as straightening out and placing in proper order the pages within each of a pile of folders on an office desk and than randomonly placing each file on other desks within the office. I have no idea if it does what they claim but they have a patent pending on it and my PC runs smooth and fast with it.

Never had any issues with it before the latest version.
